Ottakee Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 My friends first granddaughter was born yesterday with a severe cleft lip/pallet. The young couple didn't know and are sitting alone at the hospital. Baby is doing well and should be able to come home in next few days. I will be sending a tradition fun pink baby gift (they didn't know gender before hand) to celebrate her birth....likely a dress, some cute PJs, maybe a fun board book, etc. Just wondering from those of you that had a baby born with a special needs if there are any good books (They are Christian so faith based would be good) that will help them navigate the mixed emotions if celebrating this little one while also grieving that their future...at least the next few months to years won't look the same as they planned. Or a good up to date book on cleft issues (I know internet has a lot of I formation too) Something I could send them in a few weeks. I have 3 children with special needs but they were all adopted and while I grieved what could have been and should have been (2 have needs directly as a result of parental behavior) it is different.
