Dmmetler Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 DD is considering adding them to the list. They've always been a heavy mail sender to DD, but since the quarantine, they've been doing a lot of events where prospective students can chat with current ones, and she's thinking they sound like they might be her kind of people. And, well, we're a little concerned that the financial picture may look different next year, so maybe having a private school or two in the mix with a larger endowment might be a good thing. I see CWRU on acceptance lists, but didn't find a visit report or anything like that. Quote
Kassia Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 (edited) DH and I met as undergraduates at CWRU many years ago and live about an hour away now. It's a great school in a wonderful cultural area (although the surrounding neighborhood not good like many urban campuses). Definitely a rigorous school. I thought at least one of our kids would attend, but none of my four chose to go there. Two applied and were accepted, but chose different schools. It is expensive - even with merit aid. Hope this helps. ETA - long winters here with lots of snow! I'm not sure where you are from. Edited April 20, 2020 by Kassia Quote
GoodGrief Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 It's a great school. I don't think it is very easy to get in, but doubt that would be an issue for your daughter. Quote
8filltheheart Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 I was going to make the same comment as Kassia. It is expensive even with top merit. They do (or did anyway) offer something like 3 full rides, so your dd could very well be super competitive for one of those. Quote
fourisenough Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 My DD considered it. We loved the geeky, very academic vibe there. Honestly, it might have been a better fit for her than her eventual choice. But, like others have said, it was expensive even with a generous merit scholarship. 1 Quote

That’s kind of what we’re looking at-adding a school or two that has a few really good scholarships, just in case the guaranteed merit packages vanish, in the hopes of getting a good package somewhere that is a reasonably good fit. mom2scouts Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 I have a Case grad. It's a great school right in the middle of Cleveland's cultural area. My nerdy kid found his people there and is still good friends with some of the people he met at CWRU. It's super expensive, but DS found that employers are heavily interested in their graduates. 1 Quote

I think that is wise. Your daughter has some unique qualities and could very well get one of the big scholarship packages. Quote
