SKL Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Was up doing stupid stuff on the internet most of the night. Slept some. Caught up on emails, news, calendar, electronic school stuff, and social media. Currently drinking Coffee 1 and deciding which of 2 urgent overdue reports to prioritize! To do: Numerous client reports. Get the kids up & make them do their school work & music practice & cleaning. Housework, laundry. Exercise. Reading. Pizza for dinner. Whatever else gets done. 8 Quote
Selkie Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Good morning! Happy birthday, May!🎂 office work - file, shred, and straighten up my desk, which looks like a dumpster was tipped over on top of it water plants adjust Chewy autoship (good thing I only need a few odds and ends, because they sent an email saying that autoships are taking 7-10 days longer to arrive than usual) vacuum main floor clean upstairs bathrooms refill foaming soap containers dd has an online violin lesson dinner: creamy vegetable soup (using a Bob's Red Mill mix, so very easy to make) 7 Quote
ScoutTN Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 (edited) Good morning! Rain all day here. Dull, but my newly planted things need it. I may still get a walk in, as it is a gentle, drippy sort of rain, not a storm. Happy Birthday, May!😃 Yesterday was not very productive. Followed too many rabbit trails. Hoping to keep on track today. Get kids tracking on school. Check work as needed. Call mom.Make household project list for dh! His love language is service and he is great about working on things if I give him a list. Mail cards at P.O. (Print photos to go in one first.) Trying to be diligent about snail mail in this time of unconnection. YNABZoom webinar at noon. AHG things - need to call leaders and actually talk with them ReadWalkLog in to health portal and remind my doc that I have only enough meds for two more weeks. Hoping there is a generic for one that I'm on, bc it is $$ otherwise. Amazon order Hang out with my kids tonight - start a new RA or play a game. Dinner is chx stir fry and potstickers. MysteryJen Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Happy birthday, May! More of the same today. dh is missing his office and the structure it brings. Now it is wake up- start work, work all day, Oh dear is it 7 pm already. The office helps him not work every hour of the day. And they cancelled the high school graduations here... the kids are grieving and if one more person says to suck it up...I am already not returning phone calls to certain tone-deaf individuals. coffee/paper kids up and working work in sewing room clean bathrooms laundry get kids to work out/go outside things in garden figure out dinner read- whatever else needs doing Have a great day! 4 3 Quote
TheReader Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Happy Birthday, May! ((Big Hugs, Jen))) -- the loss of normalcy, like a cancelled graduation, is a real loss and a real grief; I'm glad your kiddo has you to walk through that with her. It can't be easy, at all. Yesterday's list mostly didnt' get done, so carry it over to today: ...take the stuff to the PO to mail ...do school prep ...do laundry ...pick up an online order at Best Buy (DH bought a movie) (incidentally, their system for online pick-up right now is awesome; drive up, park in a space, call & give the pick-up space number, someone brings it out) ...maybe the grocery store to see if there are ingredients for a dish DS22 wants to make, but I'm waffling on that. We're well stocked, so is it ok to go in for one or two things, or better to adapt the recipe? I feel like "adapt the recipe" and skip the store, yes? We have most of the things. ...probably watch DH's new movie tonight and resume our LOTR marathon Thursday/Friday ...somewhere in there, eat lunch, cook/eat dinner, walk the dogs, check on the garden, etc. 5 1 Quote

Reader, the instructions we have been given here by the medical and governmental powers-that-be are that every trip to the store puts you (and potentially others) in danger, so it should be kept to a minimum. Also, only one person should go - no bringing family members along if at all possible. And no socializing in the store! Apparently, that has been a problem.🤷♀️ Edited March 31, 2020 by Selkie 7 Quote

We both will be in the car, but only one of us will enter either store (I will go to the PO, DH will wait in the car; he will call the Best Buy people, as it's via his app). 7 Quote
Selkie Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 I was talking about it with ds21 and I said, "Who in the heck wants to socialize at the grocery store?" He said that in his college town, lots of kids do that. I guess I'm too old and have spent way too many hours of my life grocery shopping, because I just want to get what I need and get out of there! 6 Quote

Selkie - I socialize a lot at the grocery store. With my chronic illness this "going to essential businesses only" is what I do 90% of the time. So it is where I socialize. Of course this virus has actually taken away that form of socializing for me. (Though I am masked.) 5 2 Quote

I do stop and chat with people I know when I'm shopping, but what ds was describing (and what has caused problems since the shelter in place order) is large groups of people just hanging out at the store, not really shopping but just there to see who else is out and about. That's what had me scratching my head... 5 1 1 Quote

Selkie Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Ordered a few cases of the coffee drinks that ds19 likes. Restocked the fridge with beverages. Placed Chewy order. Did two loads of laundry. Cleaned the kitchen. Dusted the main floor. Our house is so dusty lately! Did some online work things & proofread several documents for dh. Sorted through two days of mail - we forgot to go get it yesterday. Watered plants. 5 Quote

ScoutTN Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Talked with kids about Easter menu. Menu planning and recipe gathering Worked on grocery list - much more thought needed to consolidate all trips into one weekly and still have room in my fridge, freezer and pantry. Washed and dried a bunch of small flower vases Got out all cut out cookie baking items for Easter cookies. Kids are pleased with that! Tidied the dining room table Made the stir fry sauce Reminded ds to do 3 things. Took out compost and recycling The sun is coming out, so I'm headed out to walk before dinner. 4 Quote
TheReader Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Went to the PO -- they had the self-service kiosk up & running again (yay!) so I used that. Used the back of my knuckle to type, so only really touched the printed labels as they came out. Didn't get w/in 15 ft of another person, so feel pretty safe. And hand sanitized after. DH stayed in the car. Picked up DH's movie curbside at Best Buy. You park, check in on the app, out comes an employee with your item, who stands 6 ft away and holds the item out so that just barely you can grasp it. Seemed pretty safe, hand sanitized after. Sent a few school emails. Remembered to do school with DS15; I waffle between pushing him to independence or not. Dyslexia, dysgraphia, visual & auditory processing issues.....so we sit and I scribe for him. But at some point, that will stop being feasible, and maybe now is the time. Made lunch, ate lunch. A friend/fellow teacher had to drop off something for DS & pick up her check from us. We swapped items at arm's length and visited for a little while on the sidewalk, 10+ ft from one another. It felt mildly scandalous. Took a nap. Played on the computer. Read the latest updates on a pastor I know (sort of; went to high school with his son, but not someone I'm in touch with or anything) -- the pastor and his wife are both hospitalized with Covid-19. DH listened to a podcast from one of the radio stations where they interviewed a local, recovered/recovering patient. Got nothing else done, really, and don't plan to do any of it. Our governor just mandated that all schools remain closed until May 4th (which would have been our last day of the semester at our co-op, and I'm not expecting us to resume just for that). I kind of assumed that would happen, but it still makes me sad. I miss my kiddos. Oh, I did register DS22 for his tele-therapy appt with his doc. That was kind of funny, as they called to remind me to set it up "for tomorrow." I said, "Thursday, right?" "Yes, Thursday, but you need to ask for it before the appt in the morning." "Right, but not tomorrow morning, right? Today is Tuesday, right? And the appointment is on Thursday...?" "Yes, Thursday, so you have to request it before you log in tomorrow morning." "Right, but....today is Tuesday, isn't it???" "Oh, right, yes, Thursday, not tomorrow. But you do still have to request it...." So even the people "working" aren't keeping days straight. Ha! Okay, must send one more email, and then....do something. Not sure what. 4 Quote

I have thought the same thing, when comparing our situation to people in urban situations. Thankful to be in suburbia with a yard! We don't have lots of space, but we have nice city and state parks (Trails are all still open, though buildings are not.) and a large Ag extension campus all within a couple of miles of our house. And our neighborhood is very walkable. If I had to actually stay in my house, I'd go nuts! For me it's not just the space, it's something productive and enjoyable to do in nature - walk the dog, plant flowers and herbs, pull weeds, trim hedges, identify trees and wildflowers, watch birds. We have enjoyed several spectacular mornings (Sunday was Amazing!), evening backyard fires, and lunches on the deck, listening to the birds in the vines overhead and the windchimes. Being able to be outside helps keep me balanced. 4 Quote
Jean in Newcastle Posted April 1, 2020 Author Posted April 1, 2020 Washed a bunch of pans. Did other washing up too since people keep dirtying dishes around here. . . Masked up and walked with my neighbor and her dog. Her dog (Juliet's bff) was so excited that she was loudly "chirping" for blocks and blocks! It's hard to walk with my mask on (it's a heavy duty mask and it can make breathing difficult) but I feel like I can't let down my guard right now. Changed out the cat litter for totally new litter. Dh has finally pulled up the last of the carpet in the Schoolroom of Doom. 1 Quote
