Pen Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 If anyone knows or hears anything about retired doctors interested in helping out via telemedicine or telephone medicine could you let me know. This is with regard to older relative who would be very high risk doing anything in person and has physical disabilities that would be a problem for that—but who is mentally sharp and could perhaps reduce some burden on medical system by helping non hospital requiring People/patients long distance. Computer based might not be possible because of lack of good internet access and lack of good tech skills. But telephone help would be. Issues could be licensing, insurance, logistics, etc... This is the link: https://apps.health.ny.gov/pubpal/builder/survey/retired-health-professional That’s great!! ! I hope lots more people respond too!!! I am looking for something different though, which is any information that might relate to medical volunteers to help with phone care or similar care *at a distance* that could take pressure off the system as it tries to deal with CV19. This doctor is not located in New York, not even close, cannot go in and intubation people etc, but could receive calls coming from New York (or Seattle, or ...) Another way to look at it is it could give a lessening of anxiety and stress to people in isolation to have a doctor to talk to on phone—say a pregnant woman—without having to go be exposed in a medical facility if possible to avoid that. prairiewindmomma Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 Licensing exceptions are done through states. Find the state of residence or previous licensure, and look there. Right now telemedicine is still being billed through insurance, so there are restrictions there.....but there are volunteer screening phone lines going on that isn't billed. 1 Quote
TrixieB Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 Is the doctor still licensed? If so, I think I saw an announcement looking for providers willing to work for a teledoc service. I'll check when I get to work - can't remember which insurance platform I saw the announcement on. 1 Quote

Yes. Still licensed. Thanks. Quote
Arctic Bunny Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 Our province is now covering Lumeca. Is that a possibility? Quote
purpleowl Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 Doctor on Demand, maybe? My BIL works for them (as a software architect, not on the medical side) and my sister tells me that they have been VERY busy. People want help for little things without having to go into a doctor's office right now. I'm sure there are others that are similarly busy - I just know that one because of BIL. 1 Quote

At least in past in USA, medical licensing is state by state. It may take a special emergency law to dissolve the usual state and national borders practice rules. Anyway an enquiry was started in the state where my relative is licensed. . Quote
Pippen Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 You should check in the state he's currently residing. Our governor is making it easy for people in health care to come out of retirement. In my state they can apply through the state specific website linked to The Emergency System for Advance Registration of Healthcare Professionals. https://www.phe.gov/esarvhp/Pages/about.aspx Quote
