mommyoffive Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 I am looking at getting a home security system right now. Which one do you have? Pros and Cons? Quote
katilac Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 We have ADT. I can't really compare to any other system, bc this came with the house and we rolled with it, lol. It was installed well before 1996 and is still working fine (with periodic battery changes). They call quickly if the alarm goes off and we don't cancel it properly. If we don't answer or know the code word, they call the police. I like that it has a fire/smoke detection component. Their monitoring fee is one of the most expensive, but I like that they do their own monitoring and don't outsource it. Those are my random thoughts based on using it, with no real idea how it compares to others. 2 Quote
Jentrovert Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 We have Vivant. No complaints. The app is easy to use, as well as the panel. Quote
slackermom Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 I live in a condo so there are limits to what I can do. I went with locking bars on the inside of all the windows, similar to the ones on the link. Someone with the right tools could break in, but it would be really noisy because they would have to break the window first. We also had the unit doors replaced with more secure ones when we bought the place, and installed deadbolts. I locked myself out recently when the deadbolt was not locked, just the doorknob lock was on, and I was able to slide that lock open in under a minute with my driver's license. That really made me appreciate the deadbolts! https://www.homedepot.com/p/Grisham-Pp-Spag-3-Bar-Window-Guard-in-Black-93013/202016111?mtc=Shopping-B-F_D30-G-D30-30_22_WINDOWS-Generic-NA-Feed-LIA-NA-NA-MiscWindows&cm_mmc=Shopping-B-F_D30-G-D30-30_22_WINDOWS-Generic-NA-Feed-LIA-NA-NA-MiscWindows-71700000054255916-58700005156111400-92700045371281471&gclid=Cj0KCQjwmdzzBRC7ARIsANdqRRkKQCxmECIg7f3-uG7Vk3rDDeLPu1gNH80uzLAX_QM0ExirpeizKTcaAvBjEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds Quote

DawnM Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 Good question. In our new house we have a security system that is already built in, but we have not hooked it up and I don't know if you can get a service with it. It is made by a company called Ademco. I think they were bought out by Honeywell???? We want to get it hooked up but I need to figure out who to call. Quote
Laura Corin Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 We have doors and windows that we lock at night. 3 Quote

If somebody walked up and just stayed a minute, say dropping off a package, it would go off and bark like a dog. If they lingered, the barking intensified, lol. I thought that was a great idea. 1 Quote
