How About Sharing Something Amusing.

Recommended Posts

I'll start. This morning I went to my local big chain grocers. Things are still crazy. The entire bread, beverage, dairy, and paper aisles are completely . I mean no napkins, TP, paper plates, wraps--just empty  Most of the things that they do have are limited to two items per customer.  Then went  to the dollar store just  three blocks away,.and the store looked fully stocked. Even the paper aisle. No TP, but the store had all the other paper items.  The refrigerated section was even stocked-- milk, cheese, yogurt, deli meats.  But get this, not only was there no line, nothing was limited.

My DD is watching people move out from her college dorm. She swears she's never seen some of these kids all year. Then, in a testament to how much time she has spent with friends on another floor this semester (especially studying in their lounge), the RA of that other floor saw her & asked, "Don't you live in [room # on his floor] because I thought everyone was moved out of that area?"

I think this is in line with your thread. I am wanting to avoid the stores (because of annoyance not fear) so I'm mail ordering meat. We decided we wanted a chest freezer in case they decide to shut down the restaurants, I'm just getting some beef from cattle ranching neighbor.

Anyway, Lowe's and Home Depot and the likely culprits to buy a chest freezer- sold out for weeks. Guess who had them in stock, and plenty of them? Good old Sears. Bam. Delivered. Who'd ever have thought Sears would come through in a pinch?

I read one on Twitter asking people to pick their name based on what they’re emotion is right now, plus the last food they ate from their cabinet. So you can call me Aggravated Walnut.

And you may now call me Mopey Cookie

Bemused Espresso.

(Does Espresso count if it's made from instant espresso powder out of the pantry?)

DD's 8th bday is this weekend and she was grumping around about no church and no PE class and whatnot and she said, "At least the coronavirus can't cancel my birthday!"

Re the dude who gathered up 17000+ hand sanitizer bottles in his geographic area...the NYTimes took the comments down, but the funniest one was along the lines of "Congrats Dude! You have perfect a Rube Goldberg machine.  Instead of people buying at a low price from the nearest store when they do their weekly shopping , they now have to pay your extortionist price which includes the scavenged, likely mice and rodent occupied box you used to ship it in.  ...." as well as the predictable comments.

I went to the grocery store today and looked for orange juice. Almost all were gone.  However, the oranges were plentiful.  Like piled up in a special display.  No one was buying them. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Well, der, they're not pasteurized! You expect people to risk dying from Salmonella from fresh orange juice at a time like this?!!? (I am TOTALLY kidding lest someone think I'm serious.)

Yes, because I remember which brand you’re talking about, and it’s excellent. I was really happy to find it at a Walmart an hour from here a couple years ago.

Last week, I was trying to do all the shopping before the craziness took over.  I told the kids that I needed to get the St Pat's dinner.  I said, "Don't let me forget the corned beef."

Then my 5 yr old said, "And you need that drug stuff."

"What drug?"

"That cleaning drug."

"Rubbing alcohol?"

"Yes."

It has been a long time since we talked about drugs and alcohol.  He has such a good memory.

So throughout the store in his sing-song voice, "Don't forget, corned beef and alcohol!"

Was so funny.  And more so because we do not drink.

There was no rubbing alcohol.  I don't really need any but was looking for someone who needs it to clean their insulin port site.  Got 2 corned beefs.  Will freeze the extra one.  Oh, and the 5 yr old was so happy with that dinner, "I really like that salty chicken."

My dh's frantic text from Aldi (a place I thought was at least vaguely familiar to him), where he got 3 or 4 items: Where are the bags? What do you put your stuff in? !?!?!

(A few minutes later, after a flutter of texts back and forth): A lady took pity on me and helped me bag.

I agree, it can be nervewracking. The Aldi line moves super fast. Try it sometime with kids and a heaping cart. 🙄😂

With all the kids (temporarily) out of the house, I'd been cooking potatoes more often, maybe once a week, for dh and I. Then, for whatever reason, I started obsessing about needing potatoes. Didn't worry about other kinds of veggies, no worries about getting eggs or milk, no concern about sanitizing cleaners. I NEEDED POTATOES! Well, this morning at the grocery store, I found bags of potatoes. Since I now have 10 lbs of potatoes, everything is right in the world again. 🤣🤣 🤣 (And of course, the rational side of me knows not all is right in the world or that I didn't really need POTATOES. I didn't think I was feeling stressed about the situation. Maybe I transferred my stress to POTATOES.)

Has COVID shut down the meat trucks? I can't believe that you have to mail-order meat!

So ds3 came out of his room and said he finished watching all the Marvel movies and he didn't know what to watch next. Dh said he should watch some classic movies

ds3: like Empire Strikes Back?

Dh is appalled.

The elusive meat trucks are no where to be seen right now. They are like Unicorns apparently. Or else they are being chased down the roads by the HEB hoards and are in hiding!

Speaking of, where are the Schwann people when you need them. We need a good old Schwann's Truck to come though. He'd make a fortune. Also Girl Scouts. Y'all were a couple of weeks too early with the cookies.

Schwans is having a deal atm--50% off. We'd never used them before, but are taking advantage of the discount.

Thanks! I don't seem to have any referral options, but maybe someone who is a longtime customer will. 🙂

We just finished all the Marvel movies with our kids. Next up: the Mandalorian or Doctor Who (haven't decided).

You can't post things like this and not name the brand!

That's good to know, thanks! My mom used them occasionally years ago, I haven't thought of them in a while but saw a truck last week and meant to check online.
