Day 3 - doing what we can

On the road for meds. 🤞

Then I’m going home and cleaning some more and hope to clean out and organize my garage.

I’m working hard to distract myself. I had a convo with a son who doesn’t live here last night. One of his roommates dad tested Covid positive yesterday and supposed to stay home.  It’s highly debatable that he will and he lives across the “pond” from son’s house. His roommate is supposedly leaving this morning to quarantine with her boyfriend in Kansas City.  They didn’t seem to think anything was worrisome. After the discussions with nearly every my 20something I know not taking this serious last night - I didn’t get angry per se but I did explain some math to them and how this is a big damn deal and is NOT a bunch of parents freaking out or some conspiracy theory. We can’t worry about Covid too much or we won’t be able to cope with our day to day new normal. But we can stay away from others and do our best to stay as healthy as possible and as sanitary as possible and maintain things so we don’t run out or need things fixed that might not be able to get fixed during quarantine times.  It was a rather tense conversation. And still dd18 thinks she is going back to campus Saturday bc her 🤬 school still has not said otherwise and she is still stressing over not having a job or being able to finish her classes.

In other positives possibly. There are signs on every grocery store and delivery services option that they are desperately hiring and please if you are low risk to apply because your community needs you. I hope a lot of young people can step up. I sent that info to my kids and their friends who could do it.

Quarantine work:

I got through most of my pantry cabinets yesterday, just need to finish the baking and spice/dried bean cabinet. 

I looked through my seeds, I have pretty much everything i need but wouldn't mind more lettuce seed. I do have tomato seeds but am hoping for seedlings to get a jump start. Today I am going to look up planting charts.

Try to stay off news more.

Murphy, your post makes me very glad my DD18 has some serious germaphobe, probably OCD tendencies.  She would've Lysol bombed the house daily on a normal day if I let her. Oh, MorningGlory, that is tough; I am so sorry. 

No need to go out today as Middle's physical therapy has changed to phone call with assigned exercises. That medical system has closed everything non-emergency. Gray, overcast day with rain likely here, so we'll work inside the house.

School goals: Going to make sure kids do math. Middle has science reading to do. Oldest is still at loose ends since her college is on extended break. 

Cleaning goals: Still have a stack of paperwork from yesterday. Clean shelves and drawers in refrigerator. Today is floor day, so bath mats will be washed and all floors mopped (Ugh - I hate mopping!). Will clean stairs in the garage as I realized they haven't been cleaned yet and people are touching the handrails daily. 

Food goals: Cooking some chicken drumsticks for dinner and will double for freezer meal for later. Making jello with some of the applesauce as well. I will probably stress bake sometime today, but I don't know what yet. It's been helpful for my mind to do some baking daily.

Exercise goals: Ride exercise bike for at least 1 mile.

Fun/Relaxation goals: Finish putting walls on gingerbread house. Do a guided meditation. 

I am struggling with the unknown duration of this lockdown. I can't stop my mind whirling around and around. The list making here has been helpful in focusing me. I find myself while cleaning or cooking flitting from one thing to the next and then finding a half-done project set down somewhere.

We are still just doing a lot of school, which is actually going really well.  Dh and dd18 are still working.  I worked out at home last night, because our gym closed (I'm sure you remember my whining yesterday).  I need to start coming up with a game plan for groceries this weekend.  We're a family of 7, so I'm feeding at least 7-8 people all the time (ds17 has a serious girlfriend who eats with us several times a week).  With everyone wiping out the shelves at the stores, now I'm not sure how I'm going to pull off groceries this weekend.

I  got to everything on my list yesterday except for scrapbooking. Hope I can get to that today.

I'm realizing that I need to take care of relationships better. We go way too long without checking in with family. Talked to my sister on the phone for more than an hour yesterday. We had good talks with both sets of our octogenarian parents this weekend--all currently in good health but haven't been isolating enough. My dh was pretty down last night just worried where this will all go, so I need to take care of him too. For today, I think I will try to reach out to SIL (I don't think dh has talked to her dh, his brother, yet).  She's from Malaysia, and I've been thinking of her huge family and her description of their medical system as "third world".

Other goals:
Exercise: 30 min on treadmill, 10 min strength training. Try the lunges again even tnough I'm still sore from Monday.
Outside: Walk with wheelchair kid. We'll have rain next week, so enjoy the sunny days now.
Cleaning: Laundry day. Maybe touch up bathroom surfaces.
Food: Make a grocery list for tomorrow. I think I will stick with once a week shopping for now. I could wait, but don't want to have to go on the weekend.
Hobbies: Scrapbook, read. We played some Boggle last night which was good for a laugh as my dds make up words that might be real. They usually aren't.

School (which is nice since it’s our normal routine, but we have slacked on some stuff due to the time change originally messing with us)

take a good look at what’s in the pantry/fridge/freezer

GET SUNSHINE!!! the sun is peeking out for the first time in 6 DAYS!!! We will all be out soaking up as much Vit D as we can today!

Other thoughts:

1) I stocked up on normal food last Thursday and we haven’t left the house since. I know I will need milk and fresh produce by Friday. I have no idea if my stores are running out of this stuff. Also, are people feeling ok about eating fresh produce??? I can’t imagine just eating frozen stuff and pantry things unless it’s pretty dire. Maybe it already is...I don’t know. 


2) I’ve really been doing great with working out, which is not normal for me! The lack of commitments in the afternoon, plus the need to feel/be healthier and stronger has really motivated me. And here’s a plug if any of you are wanting something new. I love, love the Fitness Blender workout programs that you purchase. Yes, all the videos are free, and I’ve used them for free for years, but the programs take it to another easier and better level. Every day you click on the day in calendar and the workout for the day is right there. And then on the calendar you check off each day when you’re finished (good for me bc I’m a box checker!) Also the videos are just laid out perfectly for a great work out day to day.  I just finished Blend and loved it! If you’ve never tried Fitness Blender I’d recommend it too especially during this time. The woman (Kelli) who does them is so encouraging and kind...always making you feel good about the work out even if you struggled through it. I sound like a paid commercial (I’m not!), but I just really like the program!

Oh, @MorningGlory, that is really sad.

Been thinking about when the reality will hit for the young adults who have escaped reality and are soaking up the sun on beaches and imbibing in what they think is a preventative...alcohol.  That is what I hear from dc is many of their age-mate's thinking=(  My Dc run the gamut from introverts glad for the break to science-minded individuals respecting the need.  They've even had to remind me why I cannot just cannot take off and go on vacation right now.  I know, I know...I wouldn't (and do not really want to) but the extroverted side of me sees the reasonable gas/cheap plane tickets and wants to use some of our points to go hole up in a hotel room facing the ocean and escape it all!

My heart bleeds for those like MorningGlory's son who is experiencing major life choices and those, especially. losing their livelihoods and...those losing their lives.

I did not at all keep off the internet yesterday like I had planned, and I must reclaim that time to not only catch up, but also deep clean and bake.  I figure that I can at least ease the burden of those living/returning to our home by making our home peaceful and warm.  Keep well, everyone!

Our city (in Montenegro) has no known cases.  Nationwide, most things are shut down.  We are reasonably stocked with food and household items.  However, since Serbia announced they were no longer exporting pharmaceuticals, we've been concerned about getting our meds.  Today, a young man we know went out on our behalf (since my husband and I are in the "higher risk" category,) and spent the morning trooping to a half-dozen apotekas before finding what we need.  But now we are set for a solid month or two.  And God bless those helping out!

Last night, my sister postponed the wedding shower for her Dd. The wedding is the end of May. 250 people. Huge expensive wedding. I told my sister the chances are great it won’t happen.

I had a headache yesterday so I was not at my best. Slept well last night and woke up ready to roll. 
 

I made a cv19 bucket list. A daily list and an overall big projects list. 

part of my daily list is a daily song that I post on my blog. Here’s today’s song.
 

Need to go out and get stamps. Part of my daily to do is to encourage someone each day so I’ll be mailing notes to folks.

school today. Then trying to do a video practice for my drama group over zoom. We’ll see how that goes!

Also one of dhs co workers had contact with his ex wife who had contact with someone who is awaiting test results for the virus. Personally I think that co worker should be kept out of the office until results are in. 
dh wants to work from home but the owners for now are saying they want to keep the office open. 
Things are changing rapidly though.

Don't know where you are, but I was in 4 groceries this morning and all had lots of fresh produce (much is wrapped in plastic which we all used to complain about, but which I'm quietly happy about these days). The two I looked at had milk, one of those also had eggs. The second store also had flour. The first had toilet paper.

I think I have enough food now - as long as no-one eats anything! 🙄

Thank you. I don't actually know what day this is for us. 7 I think. The kids have been sick since last week so we haven't left the house. 

I'm hoping to start the day over after forced relax time in a bit.

This morning was a medication level blood test for dd....it was eerily quiet there as they also house specialists offices, surgical center, and an urgent care.

Then we made a run to the store for vitamins as when I tried to donate blood I found out I was anemic (my last bottle of vitamins didn't have the iron in them).

Home and made taco soup....which the kids all loved...using left overs the kids didn't want to eat🙄

In an hour I go to the local food bank to stock shelves and prepare boxes of foods for general distribution and stuff for the kids food program.

We are trying to do as little as possible but some of these things we CAN do with minimal risk and hopefully help out others that are in a higher risk category.

We cried at mass today. Even though it was via live stream.

Part of the crying is frustration with my older kids.  My daughter is still thinking that of course she can go back living on that tiny campus and eating in the cafeteria bc otherwise her school would have said they closed it.  Made me so angry.  I’d slap whoever is in charge of that campus today.  I don’t think my girl just doesn’t want to be with us. She just sincerely doesn’t think it’s going to be a problem.  Because surely the school would say so if it was. UGH!!

Positives.  Even though it's a rainy day, the temps are wonderful at 60'+ so all my windows are open and we are doing intermittent cleaning.  I'm taking all the drinkware outmoded the cabinet so I have room for more staples.  And everyone is going to use their water bottles in their holders from now on.  Less cleaning required, less contamination, easy to keep sorted.  Water bottles can be cleaned before bed, filled and frozen over night.

Dumb wish I could have things are upsetting me.  Like we were considering getting my wedding ring (s) sized so I could wear them again.  I lost so much weight they just fall off. But we didn't get around to it and now of course jewelry stores are not essential to have open.  Told dh if the covid doesn't kill me, I'm putting that expense higher up the list.  Which was the first time he seemed visibly upset by any of this bc it made him cry.  Well crap.  I wasn't looking to make anyone cry.  Just an off-handed comment as I was cleaning out my nightstand. Marriage was rough for many years and I guess he just needed to hear what he didn't know he needed to hear. 😭

Now i'm going on a neighborhood walk with my 3 yr old.

Dumb wish I could have things are upsetting me.  Like we were considering getting my wedding ring (s) sized so I could wear them again.  I lost so much weight they just fall off. But we didn't get around to it and now of course jewelry stores are not essential to have open.  Told dh if the covid doesn't kill me, I'm putting that expense higher up the list.  Which was the first time he seemed visibly upset by any of this bc it made him cry.  Well crap.  I wasn't looking to make anyone cry.  Just an off-handed comment as I was cleaning out my nightstand. Marriage was rough for many years and I guess he just needed to hear what he didn't know he needed to hear. 😭

Totally going to sideline your thread but I really really really wish more long time married people would say this OUT LOUD. You have have bad times. Sometimes it is literally years and years of crap in your marriage and keep pushing through it all. No, often it's not as sweet or precious as it used to be but it can be okay. No butterflies and rainbows and saccharine sweetness, but still good solid and dependable. 

An older lady in our church whose been married for over 60 years said something a long those lines to me and it was like manna from heaven. Because it can feel hopeless and lonely and pointless when you're in those crap years.

I love this.  Thank you.  I think we all need to remind ourselves of this sometimes.   A lot has changed and happened since we said " I do."

Today is day 5 for my kids of not leaving the house (other than playing outside and walks/scootering around the neighborhood). Apparently day 5 is the "but can't we GO SOMEWHERE?!?!?!?!" day here. Fun times.

We got school done today. I am feeling a bit better from my cold today, coughing less. I am at the point where I don't really have the energy and focus to do a lot, but I have enough to feel annoyed that I can't get more done, lol.

And now I have melted down! We have decided to implement no electronics starting tomorrow, minus the few lessons we do online. They all seem to be grumpy until their computer time and that is just unacceptable. They've gotta find joy in other things if we're gonna be stuck at home for a long time

I woke up with a (very mild) sore throat and some sniffles this morning. Absolutely not worried for me, but I didn't want to make anyone nervous, so I opted to work from home. I did my best to come at with a positive attitude, taking time to clear off the desk in my home office that has become a junk depository while I am not regularly working here and wipe everything down with the nice-smelling cleaner and open the curtains and . . . 

I started the day as usual with a good, couple-mile walk with the dog and made myself shower and get dressed before sitting down to work. Took another walk at lunch. And I did more or less okay until about 4:00, when I realized the work day was ending and all I had to look forward to was a THIRD aimless walk around the same neighborhood I trudge around every single morning. And if I work from home tomorrow, it will be exactly the same. And Friday, too, except that I do have a follow-up appointment with my medical oncologist that will require me to drive downtown in the morning. You know things are dicey when driving 20 miles along a highway that is perpetually under construction to attend an appointment with one of your cancer doctors seems like a nice break in the routine.

Positives:

  • The sore throat and sniffles have disappeared.
  • I made my step goal for the 9th day in a row, even after increasing it by 500 steps per day a couple of weeks ago.
  • I got a decent amount of work done, despite spending almost 90 minutes in an online departmental meeting.
  • One of my co-workers made me laugh out loud with a Slack post this afternoon.
  • The Met is streaming Il Trovatore tonight.

I didn’t go to yoga class last night so I did a “yoga for strength” routine after breakfast from a Rodney Yee video. 

I spent less time online today as yesterday the constant cocido-19 news and speculation was making me anxious. 

The kids managed to amuse themselves all day with no help from me or electronic devices - nearly a miracle! I got the bathroom cleaned, some laundry done, and the sheets changed. I feel productive, but I also read most of a book, too. 🙂

I shopped for my boss today.  7 stores.  Then to his house where normally I wash and cut up fruit.  Today I opted to not do that since I have been near so many people today. I brought his laundry home with me......

I always park way out when shopping so I can get a few steps in.  And normally I am able to take a cart for an elderly person or mother with children in tow.  Makes me feel helpful.  Not today though.  And Several times I had people turn around in an isle to avoid passing me.

Downdog keeps sending me emails about a super extended free trial they are offering on all their apps. I love their yoga; it is ve-ery customizable. Anyway, that might ride you over until classes resume or go online.

Howling wind here, extremely dusty and the worst fire day since Jan.  anxiety is up a bit all round.  On top of that my “happiness” jeans - the ones that fit perfectly for the first time ever have given me some kind of allergic reaction and I’m so itchy and haven’t even able to sleep right all week.  Anyway...

all the negatives out the way, school is going well, we have a new very cute lamb and baby budgies hatching.

The kids have gotten outside everyday since Saturday.  That is a small way to break up the day.   I feel like I am feeling less shock of this now.  I saw this coming watching this play out in Asia, and then Europe.  But this new reality was still a huge shock for me.   That doesn't mean I haven't cried everyday for the things the kids are going to miss. 

The kids have worked out, gotten school done, gone outside, and then every night is movie night.   We had a dance party tonight after we ate.  It was fun. I think I forgot about everything for 40 mins or so.

The weather for the next 4 days in my area is literally expected to included all of these things: extensive flooding, fire danger, high winds, and hail.

Jesus, have mercy.

And I’m going to sob like a baby if the electricity goes out and my little freezer goes bad.

Sorry that was poorly worded.  No fire just really bad weather.  It has settled now we are just breathing dust.  There was a small outbreak probably linked to the cuddly creek fire from Christmas time and one shed fire but nothing scary.  We do really need rain still.

Ah not good.  Hopefully people who need to stock up for disaster preparedness still can find supplies they need.  And no fires...

Day 3, was a pretty normal day pottering around the house. Dh was home (his weekend) so he and ds1 laid some tile in my kitchen 😍

I did our finances, planned and wrote out next week's schoolwork (tomorrow is day 1 of our new week) and did some gardening. Trying to get in the garden everyday.

Dd got back into her crochet project and my younger two boys played in the pool then emptied it (it needs a clean) for me. They've been playing really nicely the last few days.

Dh is making bread again. He's trying to get into the daily habit again with all this craziness going on. Dd is making pudding. I am not complaining 🤤
