lulalu Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 My birthday is coming up so I want some books. Anyways, what homeschool or how to books do you find worth owning? Knowing and Telling is on my list. Quote
lulalu Posted March 10, 2020 Author Posted March 10, 2020 Ordered The Writing Revolution! Can't wait. Thanks. Quote
Emily ZL Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 I think the Abolition of Man by CS Lewis is timely and phenomenal. 1 Quote
serendipitous journey Posted March 11, 2020 Posted March 11, 2020 My shortlist for homeschool reference/how-to. I don't always see eye-to-eye with any of these authors, but they are all worth spending time with: SWB's books on education are a treat for me. If you don't have the newest TWTM there's always that (I now have all four editions 🙂 ) plus "Rethinking School" & "The Well-Educated Mind" (my least favorite of SWB's books and still a great resource). Mortimer Adler & Charles Van Doren: "How to Read a Book" Michael Dirda: these are easy to drop into, read a section, and have spent some time thinking about marvelous books. "Classics for Pleasure" "Bound to Please" Years ago I got my hands on a used copy of William Boyd's "The History of Western Education" and was glad to have it & to read it. 4 Quote
Quarter Note Posted March 16, 2020 Posted March 16, 2020 This one hasn't been mentioned yet, but I'm very glad that I own a copy, rather than checking it out from the library all the time: How to Teach Your Children Shakespeare, by Ken Ludwig. 4 Quote
