How did it get to be almost 2am??

I still did not get to one of my stressful client projects that I have promised every day since last Thursday.  It isn't even that important, but since I promised it, the client went and told a whole team of people to expect it "early to mid week" this week.  I think the added pressure is just making it harder for me to make it happen.  I should try to do some tonight... but I'm not sure I will.

To do Thursday:

  • Switch out laundry so the kids have dry gym clothes tomorrow.  (Done.)
  • Switch out my Invisalign insert.  (Done.)
  • Maybe work, if I can focus.  (Nope.)
  • Sleep.  (Yep.)
  • Wake kid1 up early to study for math test.  (Done.)
  • The usual Thursday morning stuff to get the kids off to the school bus.  (Done.  Kids a little late but too bad.  Lots of snow out there.)
  • Lots more client work.
  • Make appointment(s) with psychologist.
  • Call the high school to get scheduling going.
  • Some reading, exercise, laundry etc.
  • Pay bills.
  • Purge some stuff.
  • Kids' evening work - music practice, test study, homework, picking up.
  • Probably take the kids to eat somewhere and/or grocery shop.
  • Might go pick up the ref letter from my kid's coach.
  • Will there be any time for AHG work???
  • Whatever else gets done.

Good morning!

Yesterday was a good day, but long and not a lot got done. I visited with a mom from one of my classes, and it was long but good, and it's what needed to be done, so it was good.

Today, though, I need to....
....take DS15 to the dentist
....do school with DS15
....work on laundry
.....sew
.....decide if I'm going to book club or sew-in tomorrow, or neither
.....get the book (ha!) if I decide to go to book club
....get the movie for tonight if I am going to one of the other things (we are renting Knives Out to watch together)
....dinner -- take out something to cook with the asparagus before it goes bad
.....menu plan for the next week
.....decide if DS19 needs to keep the therapy appointment or not, and call & cancel if not

Amy, congratulations to your dd! I know you are so proud of her!

My medication gave me horrible  intestinal cramps last night and my fasting blood sugar went up, not down. The only thing I can think of is that maybe the salad dressing at church last night had sugar in it. So discouraging to be eating seriously low carb, be on two medications, and see so little progress! I see the doctor this morning.

Amy, congratulations to your DD on her RN! What an accomplishment!

Jean, I think from yesterday, but congrats also to your DD on her Driver's License!

Leah, praying for you & the baby still; I hope things improve soon. ((hugs))

Scout, that must be so frustrating! Praying things settle down/level out soon.

Home from the dentist; DS needs back on his 3 month cleaning routine vs. 6 month....sigh. His upper gums are massively inflamed; the dentist prescribed (and gave us a bottle, no charge) an anti-microbial mouthwash/rinse/thing to use. He's mostly concerned due to the braces (the gums are getting dangerously close to the brackets). Not unexpected, and hopefully this will help.

Stopped at the grocery store on the way home and got the couple of things I forgot yesterday, and figured out a plan for dinner. Salmon & asparagus, and bought a nice wine to go with it. DS requested we finish our Merlin episodes tonight (we have 2 left......) so we'll do that tonight; should be a fun evening.

Called and cancelled DS19's therapy appointment.

Working on menu planning now.

Reader, I have been enjoying Merlin so much!

Human care done

pet care done.

medical care done.  Had a bit of excitement this morning when I dumped all my meds right in front of Juliet's nose.  But she's good at "leave it" and I quickly rushed her outside while I did pill pick-up.  Looks like another day when my hands aren't quite working though.  I hear that Mercury actually is in retrograde!

One load of laundry is in the washing machine

Reader, I got both my kids electric toothbrushes while they had braces. They really didn't even floss much and never had problems. They didn't have any cavities, either. I think it made all the difference for them.

Doc says to think of getting my blood sugar down like turning the Titanic. Slow, incremental. He pointed out that the overall pattern is down and that my numbers are down 150-200 from my initial bloodwork.

He is changing one medication and scheduling another appt in six weeks or so.

Waiting for bloodwork now.

Cleaned up back yard- dog poop, some trash from high winds on Tuesday. Brought in a box of books from the garage, they will go on the shelf and prove their worth over the next year or out they go!

laundry is ongoing

dishwasher emptied, kitchen cleaned

Arranged a lunch date with a friend.

Waiting on insurance info from dh so I can make an eye appointment. I definitely need some new sunglasses.

ds3 is heading to the courts for an hour- while he is hitting, I will drop off some things at Goodwill. Shop for a new sharp pitchfork.

Pick up ds3.

Then: read, some handwork, sew when dd2 leaves for practice.

Thanks; he has an electric toothbrush, and a water pic, and uses mouthwash nightly already. His teeth are great -- dentist is always very pleased. No cavities, never any "hard" build up, just....inflamed gums.

The dentist had warned us this could happen, because the braces themselves since they are moving the teeth can lead to inflammation. Then when our dentist was out for a while, the sub dentist said it could also be a reaction to the metal (which would help explain why it just keeps getting worse despite everything we keep adding to try and cut down the inflammation). He isn't flossing, because it's next to impossible with the braces. but he's doing literally everything else. He's *almost done* with the braces, but the dentist said two things can happen -- one, the inflammation starts pushing the teeth apart, working against the braces, leading to longer time in braces. Two, as the inflammation gets worse/doesn't get better, it can get so close to the brackets that the gums have to be cut away to remove the braces. :sigh:

So....the new mouthwash just to help, and back to the 3 month cleaning schedule while in the braces (we were on that plan, and then the last time, in Dec, was going to charge me more so we bumped it.....mistake).

Whew, I finally got out that report that I should never have promised last week.

Called the school and left yet another message!  But this time I asked an admin to help me set up an appointment vs. talking to the counselor on the phone.  So we'll see if I ever get a call back about that.

Called the OCD therapist.  His voice mail greeting says send me an email if you want a response in a couple days vs. a couple weeks.  So I sent an email.  We'll see how long it takes to get that set up.

Jean, we've loved it. We're at the very end of it and DS said "Let's watch it and finish it. Or let's not, because I don't want it to end!" (we are, but yes, we'll be a bit sad). It's been a great one for the whole family.  Our one DS who's read Le Morte d'Arthur keeps his mouth shut (and/or explains who people "really" are vs who the show depicts them as, etc...).

I'm sorry your hands aren't wanting to work. I hope that improves.

Had a frantic-ish phone call from DH, because in looking impatiently at the info online about whether we can or can't plant trees, he found a clause that says the exact opposite of what the printed version says. We have a clause in our HOA documents that states that "any request for approval shall be deemed approved if disapproval isn't given within 30 days" -- in other words, they can't just sit on it, if they do, it deems your request approved.  Well, he found something in some document online saying the opposite -- that any request not approved within 30 days shall be deemed disapproved. What???? So they can ignore it, which converts it to an automatic NO????

I went and looked, and I have no idea what he looked at, but the info for our section is still worded exactly as what I have printed out. So, as his timeline is fast approaching, he's relaxed now and ready to plant his trees (he has about 10 more days). He was so worried that if they didn't reply, it meant he couldn't plant his trees. Crisis averted, and all is well. (now he's debating whether merely placing some paving stones constitutes an "improvement" or not, since they aren't permanent....we found footprint shaped paving stones and desperately want to place some along the driveway to create a foot path. Pun fully, wholly, wholeheartedly intended.)

Got email from folks regarding the visit I made yesterday, and dealt with that.

Returning to my menu planning now.

Wow, I finally got a call back from he high school counselor.  We discussed my questions and the kids have a schedule ... however, he couldn't find my eldest in the system for some reason.  He promises to try to figure that out and call me back today or tomorrow.

Good news - you don't have to take gym if you take marching band for 2 years.  Band also covers the art requirement.  Yay!

So that means my youngest can take mythology, which she wanted, but I thought was too much if she also had gym.

No honors Algebra though, because they only offer that to 8th graders.  I don't think my kids will care about that.

Washed, dried and put away dishes, knives and pans.

Wiped down counters and stove and microwave.

Dd is kindly taking Juliet on her outing to the pet store for me and will pick up the food I need.

Did a quick toss of some leftovers and will have others for lunch.

Sigh.  Technology.  Government.  Government technology!

I tried to complete a report yesterday - a day early for a change - but the website wouldn't allow me to save my changes.  I put in a service request.  I have received several confirmations that they got my request, but no resolution, and close of business is in 24 minutes.

This actually happens every year with this client, because of it being on an unusual schedule.  The tech folks are gearing up for calendar year people to do their reporting in June.  My client is the guinea pig since they report 4 months earlier.

Last year the whole system was down the report delayed almost 2 months, and I still needed to ask for tech help to finally get it submitted.

It's not my fault.  It just looks bad.  My contact at the client is new and probably thinks this is another example of me doing everything at the last minute.  Also she is not responding to my emails to approve the final certification should it by a miracle get fixed today.  Ugh....

Took the puppies to the vet for their final round of puppy shots.

Both of them got carsick, so they had a bubblebath as soon as they got home. Between the car ride, the shots, and the bath, I'm pretty sure it was the worst day of their lives, poor babies.😄

Lupo is 31 pounds and Tigerlily is 25.

SKL, remind me that I never ever ever want to do whatever it is that you do, LOL! Your clients sound so....grumpy! And I cannot imagine trying to deal with all that you do, in the system in which you have to do it.  My hat is off to you; I know you always feel swamped, but.....really, it sounds like you juggle A LOT.

Selkie, aww, sorry about the carsick puppies. One of our dogs was always carsick; we got to where we could tell his "I'm gonna be sick" signs *really well* and would pull over, let him be sick, walk him around, etc. (and took measures to protect the car, of course). I hope it passes soon for your pups!

Well, the Metro area is having a "boil water for 24 hrs" notice due to a massive water main break. Luckily, we are well outside the actual city, so not affected. Luckily, DS who was at school but has quit and come home......has quit and come home. Otherwise he would have spent half the day on campus with no water and no dining hall services (they are still without, but we would have picked him up this afternoon anyway for his weekend).  I cannot imagine. The university is handling it as well as possible.

So, I have:
...taken a nap
....distributed the kids' laundry that has been sitting for ages and made them put it away
....hung up jeans that were in the dryer
....put clothes from the wash into the dryer, and now getting ready to fold them
....washed towels/sheets, and those are now in the dryer
....put a load of kids' jeans/shirts in the wash
....did school with DS15
....corrected a work email for DH
....made the boys do their new chores
....had a snack

Next up, vocabulary flash cards for DS. I write the cards, he studies them (b/c dyslexia, he can't copy well), fold the laundry, cook dinner, watch Merlin, done.

Decided DS should read me the definitions while I write them; we will do that tomorrow.

Dinner is made and smells amazing. Wowsa. Jen, I'd invite you, but I didn't make enough. Sorry. (well, not that you live in my state anyway, ha!) If you need ideas....lemon butter salmon with asparagus. YUM. I cannot wait. Calling the family down now, then we'll eat and watch Merlin.

It'll be sad to see it end.

Also, messaged my niece who does live in city limits, in case she needs to come over and not have to boil water. Y'all should look it up on the news; the flooding on a major highway from this was insane. The water main that broke supplies 50% of the water for the city. It's really insane. A worker was doing some exploratory work, moved the soil away from the water main, and......there it went. Crazy.

Oh wow, that looks awful! I would hate to be on the highway when that happened. That must have been quite a shock, like where did this tsunami come from?? I hope no one got hurt.

As far as I know, no injuries or anything. They did have to do boat rescues for the people who were caught on the highway as it started, because yes, it was very "what on earth???"

The "boil water map" is HUGE. We're outside the area by quite a bit, so we're okay, but.....egads.

Reader, the conference championships for dd2's college (the WAC) is being held at the U of Houston. They had to cancel finals tonight.

What a mess!

Oh, I'm so sorry! I hope they can reschedule/get things sorted soon.

The school is still totally without water so closed again today. I'm impressed with all they're doing for the on-campus students, though; they got plans in place fairly quickly. Won't be convenient or comfortable (I mean, how many porta potties can you bring in to service whole dorms of kids....??) but they are doing what they can, and got it up & running in a fairly short amount of time.
