Shelf liner--Does the non-adhesive stuff stay put?

Recommended Posts

I want to reline some kitchen shelves with shelf liner. It makes it easier to clean the area & my current stuff is all beat up (20+ yrs old). I'm used to the adhesive type but found grippy non-adhesive stuff (Duck Easy Liner for example), too. I can see that would easier to install, but does it shift around/move if you slide things in & out often?

Duck Easy Liner is terrible! And expensive! I spent $200 on shelf liner a few months ago and now it is all bunched up in the drawers. It's okay under plates and bowls and so-so under drinking glasses. You definitely cannot slide things on it without it shifting. A similar product I used 10 years ago was wonderful, so I'm not sure why this was so disappointing.

My mom did have some non-stick liner in her cupboards, and it seemed to work fine for years, which is why I decided to try some, instead of the sticky backed kind. Hers was a kind of mesh, where you could actually see through in places. I don't even remember if I saw that kind in the stores when I was looking, but I was not sure that I wanted something that would let crumbs and dust drop through.

I guess that would have been a better choice, though. If you find that meshy type, you could get a small amount and try it in one or two cupboards to see if you like it.

I love using this: https://www.containerstore.com/s/clear-plast-o-mat-ribbed-shelf-liner/d?productId=10000688&q=shelf liner

It's a thick kind of ribbed plastic liner.  The frame of the cabinets helps to keep it in place.  For some cabinets where that doesn't work, I put the non-adhesive foamy type of liner underneath to help it stay in place better.
