hands-on-mama Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 Can I hear some reviews from using MUS with high schoolers? My oldest really struggles with math. Spiral is just overwhelming for her. We have finally found our groove with MUS now that she is halfway through 6th grade. Is this enough?? I'm hoping it is because neither of my girls want to switch now. I just want to be sure that we are doing the right thing. Quote
almondbutterandjelly Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 Worked well for us. You may want to get through PreCal before taking the SATs. (My dd did her last SAT Fall of senior year.) Quote

I probably should have started her in Zeta, but I felt like Epsilon would help her with truly understanding math more, so here we are. She's learning a ton from it though and I'm seeing some number sense kicking in finally. She'll be doing pre-algebra by 8th at the very least I plan to have her finish Epsilon before 7th. 1 Quote
Calm37 Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 Both my younger girls used MUS only - one Alpha through PreCalc and the other Alpha through Algebra 2. Both did very well with it and one continued with math in college. The only thing I wish I had done differently was that I stuck with a one level a year sequence. I wish we had continued with it mostly year round, so that we could have gotten through Calc. 3 Quote

I'm planning to try to do math year round with them just so they don't forget things. Quote
Zoo Keeper Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 Here are some threads for you... Happy reading! 🙂 (and FWIW, if MUS is working well, I wouldn't worry about switching. ) 1 Quote
frogger Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 If MUS is working for you I would stick with it. I currently have one taking Alg. 2. I am putting off ACT until her Senior year because there is a lot that isn't covered yet that will be on the standardized tests. It is very short on proofs in Geometry if that is important to you. The honors pages, throughout all the levels, have some application but there isn't a lot honestly. If the student understands the concepts they should be able to apply it though. Quote
