seems on a recent dog thread there were comments about goldens and food. . . . .

here's video of a dog race (3rd dog is a golden) with food as a distraction for the dogs. . . . .

That's one of my favorite animal videos. 😂

He probably thought his job was to eat everything possible on the course. He must have felt so proud at the end!

This is just what our Zoey would do.  😄  She's a Golden who is on a kibble-only diet right now, trying to lose some weight.  Today, she ate half of a Jersey Mike's sub off of the stove. It was pushed way back. My daughter said she probably thought it was Jersey Mike's kibble.  She also has a fondness for stealing entire sticks of butter to the point where we thought about renaming her Julia (after Julia Child).

I love it when he enters crisis mode with the (I think) hot dog. “Oh no, she’s coming! Hurry!”

I would never enter my lab in such a contest, lol!

Oh man! That brings back memories/nightmares of taking my lab to obedience classes where he had to walk by all kinds of great food and toys and try to ignore them. It take a HUGE amount of work to succeed. And success in-class definitely did not equal success at home, where he would anything - it didn't matter if it was food. He was nicknamed "Pinecone" for a reason. 🤪  But it could also have been "Socks" or "Towel" or "Underwear" or "Gloves."   You can't fix dumb, I guess, but you gotta try.

Yup. I think every dog we ever did surgery on for eating something dumb was a lab or golden - but most were labradors. Many were repeat customers. Breed a dog to be orally fixated for that long and well, you get an orally fixated dog.

Thankfully my lab mix stuck to food items. She'd eat any food not nailed down, and if it was nailed down I think that would barely have slowed her down 🙂  God bless her, she had the iron stomach to go with the appetite, but she taught my hound mix that stealing sticks of butter off the counter is fun and he does NOT have an iron stomach. Butter that is half digested and vomited onto your bed is not a good smell.
