So.......yesterday I was at work until 7pm.

We had a tornado warning at 12:30pm and the students were in tornado drill position for 90 minutes.  Then the storms continued after the tornado stopped, and the busses had to be cancelled as the roads were bad.

I was on car rider line from 3:45pm until 6:45pm.  All 1500 kids had to be picked up by their parents, and it was chaos.  Not to mention it was pouring down rain and I was drenched to the bone out there.

Then, since the roads were bad/flooded, I ran into two routes with road closures and had to turn around twice.  It took me an hour to get home.

I am SO TIRED.  And the wind has been so bad since 4am.  So guess who is up and can't sleep?

2 hour school delay today, although the wind is so bad and trees are down, so I am hoping for a closure.

  • Work
  • My dad is flying in today at 4.
  • Clean kitchen up
  • Get ready for lots of yelling (Grandpa can't hear!)

Thirty minutes or 400 calories on my ski machine. It’s raining outside and I don’t like walking in the rain

Meet a friend for coffee

Go to gym with DH

Fix dinner

Next door neighbors coming over for adult beverage and dessert(?) Their daughter has been sick the last few days, so they may want a rain check.

Good morning! It did snow! Only about an inch, none of which stuck to the road, but it is pretty and school is closed. Still a few flakes drifting softly down.

Ds can sleep in and play outside. Dd still has plenty of work to do.  She is supposed to go to a sleepover tonight.

I slept better last night, only 3 epiodes of my feet/legs cramping, so I feel a lot more like myself.

Other than some school with dd and some deskwork, not sure what else I will do today. Prep cooking, possibly. Two hours free bc no school driving, hooray!

Snowing here- dd2 has a complicated driving schedule today, so we may change cars with her for the day. I have to drive dh into work- so we will check the roads. ds3 leaves tonight for a tournament down south- so need to get money for food for him.

  • coffee/paper
  • call to excuse dd2 from school ( she is helping out with the conference meet- but not on the list)
  • dh to work
  • $ from ATM
  • ds3 up and working
  • dd2 up and out for the day
  • weekly chores- dust, vacuum, bathrooms, full kitchen
  • ds3 to his ride
  • home to chill and do some handwork or read
  • pick up dh- maybe stop at a happy hour- just the two of us tonight

Have a great day!

Good morning!

  • shower
  • coffee, meds
  • pack  ------I was way too tired last night since I had to take so much meds to combat high bp
  • breakfast on the road
  • Go to museum
  • swimming
  • dinner out
  • watch Joker

re: Joker -- it's a very well done movie, but just be aware it's.....dark. Very NOT a feel-good movie, and rather depressing, and kind of hard to watch, and just......dark. Not dark like The Dark Knight was dark, but really "bring the viewer down with it" dark.  At least, it felt that way to us.

Well done. Very well done. But just....heavy. Not saying don't watch it, just go into it with eyes open.

Good morning!

Yay for Friday! Yay for weather cancellations! No such luck here - it is a sunny, blue sky morning (not complaining, though!). This weekend will be snowy. I think we're supposed to get 5-6" on Sunday.

  • plan meals for next week & make a grocery list
  • unpack UPS boxes
  • fill grain bins
  • get two cards ready to mail
  • order stamps
  • restock paper towels
  • I was debating getting my second shingles shot today, but I don't want to feel cruddy all weekend - plus, I shudder at the thought of going to the pharmacy when the flu is running rampant...think I'll put it off until next week and try to go when it is least likely to be crowded
  • pick up thyroid meds from horse vet and pay my tab while I'm there
  • pick up meds and food from dog vet and set up an appt. for Mac's bloodwork
  • stop at Walmart to get a new dish drainer and batteries for new smoke detectors
  • get groceries - get enough frozen food, etc. so I don't have to cook for the next couple nights
  • post office
  • dinner: make-your-own
  • relax tonight - take a sauna and read

Howdy!  Happy Friday!

So excited to report that my email server is back up.  The things we take for granted!  Also I did not miss any major emergencies while it was down yesterday.  😛

The kids have a snow day.  They had been worried they might go the whole winter without one.  Not sure whether that has ever happened here.  I'm not sure yet whether the evening sports have been canceled.  I kinda hope so - I'm supposed to "escort" my kid out in front of the crowd as they recognize the 8th grade athletes.  I don't know what to wear and I would really rather hide!  Who comes up with these ideas anyway?  People without kids??

I assume the maids are still coming.  Ugh.  We need to clear the entire downstairs so people can stretch our carpets and lay new flooring tomorrow.  I would really rather focus on my work!  Also it will be hard to do any house cleaning if my partners stay home due to the roads.  They give me a hard time if I spend time doing anything that isn't billable work, so I do most of my cleaning on the sly!

Done:

  • Worked in the wee hours.
  • Slept maybe 4 hours?
  • Did my usual human morning alarm to wake my kids up about 7am.
  • Checked my texts and realized they don't have school.  We all went back to bed.
  • I got up at about 8:45 to make coffee and get to work.
  • Caught up on emails, news, social media, calendar, and school stuff.
  • Texted cheer coach.

To do:

  • More coffee.
  • Prioritize and crank out client work.  I am really close on 2 big projects, because I worked late last night.
  • Get the house ready for the maids as best I can.
  • The kids should be able to clean their rooms for the maids???
  • School forms?
  • Bill paying?
  • Either cheer or TKD in the evening?
  • Whatever else gets done.

Done with school prep except for science, which I need to pull out the books and figure out. Also 1st grade history, but I have a vague idea, and can keep it "light" because lang arts and math both have time consuming activities this week for them.

One of the boys' friends is here, the other 2 (brothers), not yet. I had thought I'd wait to go to the store till they were all here, but......? Need to get them their lunch stuff, etc. and be done with that in time for them to eat the lunch. And me to do stuff, and me to leave on time to get DS. And yet another one of the friends may  (or may not) show up after 11, so I need to be back before then for sure.

Putting clothes in the dryer, and letting the boys know I'm going to the store, and they have to listen for the doorbell/door knock when their other friend gets here. Otherwise, no lunch 😉

When I get home, I'll call the school for those questions and do the rest of the school stuff for me.

Ds is off to a board game cafe with neighbors. Dd is playing in the snow with the dog. I have washed up the breakfast dishes and sent a bunch of texts and emails.

Still not feeling great. Nausea off and on, tired.

Well, turns out the evening games are on.  So I need to be ready to go at 4:30pm.

Spent most of the morning getting ready for the maids.  The kids' rooms have seen progress.  The downstairs is mostly ready.

I need to get on a roll with work now.  But I'm not feeling it ....  Guess I just need to plunge in!

Went to the store, got the lunch stuff.

Put the clothes in the dryer.

Got home, the other pair of kids were here, so that's good. They're all down here eating lunch now. Hearing/seeing the laughter and camaraderie between them makes it worth the hassle/annoyance of their last-minute-ness worth it.

Prepped the 1st grade science stuff, and I think I'm good with all of that now.

*sidenote: tried to figure out how to spell "camaraderie" and tried multiple spellings, all marked as wrong; looked it up, and found that "comradery" is now an acceptable alternate spelling. Wondered to myself, 'how long did people have to misspell the other version for this version to become an acceptable alternate?"

Once the kids go back upstairs, I'll double check my K science stuff and watch another recorded TV show while I kill time until time to go get DS22. Once I get home from that, I'll fold/put away/distribute the clothes from the dryer, and then sew. Goal: finish the little squares.

Dinner: pasta w/Italian sausage & squash, and an artichoke....spread? thing? stuff that I bought at HEB....

Game night tonight: Smash Up card game; we're really enjoying this one, and it changes each time b/c you pick 2 sets of cards to be your deck. So, it varies with who chooses what, etc. DH just ordered a new set with 4 new types, so should be fun.

Laundry, bathrooms, dusting done. Also paid some bills.  Shoveled the walk again and the district cancelled all after school activities. Usually the Y follows suit- so dd2 will be out a practice tonight if that happens. It is going to be a long slow ride down south for ds3.

Next up: vacuum and clean the kitchen when ds3 finishes making lunch.

Reader - do you teach first grade?

I teach a K and a 1st homeschool enrichment class; so, my classes meet once/week at a local homeschool enrichment place near us (my boys have/do attend there as well) and I go over all of the material and subjects, and the parents do the bulk of the work at home during the week.

But we cover history, language arts, math, and science (plus generally a craft that ties into one or the other of the subjects, special holiday topics, story time, etc.) I do a lot of hands-on stuff/interactive stuff, and while I have my lesson plans done for the year, each week I pull whatever activity, printables, craft, etc. to go with things.

Next year I'll have everything already in weekly "print for K" and "print for 1st" folders and will just have to review, print, and go, which will be nice (although also next year I'll have 2nd grade on a different day; each class meets for 3 hrs).

I *adore* it, honestly; the kids are fabulous and it's the most fun job I've ever had (and with my youngest one at home being about to turn 15, it's a good time to have a part time, "helps pay for college" job).

Home from picking up DS. He's staying up today and playing on the computer with his brothers! I hear laughing, even, and conversation! Yay!!! (even if he naps later -- yay!!)

My stepmom called, and my grandma's out of the hospital, so that is good! They don't want visitors, and everyone in the family understands that even though I'm geographically (and relationally) close, now is not a time that I'm able to go and help out, so that is good. I've been worried about it, but my uncle who is next closest geographically is able to come down a couple times a week and check on them, stock the fridge/freezer, etc. So, that's a relief.

DH is walking in the door now, so yay! Early weekend.

I need to:
...call the school for DS19
...call the therapy place, b/c DS22 says he has not seen a doctor the whole time (supposed to be 2x/week, which even if he missed 1x b/c of starting on Tuesday......not good)
....fold the clothes from the dryer, put away/pass out to kids to put away
....sew &/or hang out with DH

Be safe driving in snow and such, Jen. (unless I'm mixing up all of y'all's winter weather closures and such)

Found the info DH wanted to know, online, so I don't have to call the school after all. Yay! (I do not love phone calls)

Folding clothes now while DH does computer stuff

Dropped off ds3 and then was stopped by a train for over 15 minutes. Made it to the library anyway.

dd2's practice is still on- just started snowing again. Not sure what her plans are later tonight- since the bb game was cancelled.

Not sure when dh will need to be picked up.

Next up:

read a little and do some handwork

Ran errands with DH since he was home early. We managed to:
...return an electric smoker he'd bought himself at Lowe's, only to find out it's too narrow/small to even really cook a turkey, brisket, etc. which defeats the purpose
...stop by all 3 major cell phone providers in our area and see who has the best deal b/c right now ours jumped and is way too much
...stop by Best Buy and get my new printer for printing all the stuff for my classes; while there, we found a better model, with a longer warranty, for $100 less than the one we were intending to get. Yay! (we're upgrading me to a laser printer, b/c I am printing roughly 100 pages a week; I've gone through 5000 sheets of paper since August and about 4 or 5 ink cartridges)
...pick up a movie to watch tonight with the kids (DH wants to save the board game for tomorrow)

Came home, cooked dinner (turned out so good!), ate dinner, had a long discussion about robots, AI, the 3 laws of robotics, etc. with the kids (and reviewed the Terminator story line with the youngest), and now we're heading up to watch the movie. (oh, Terminator)

Also have a box of the new "pretzel pop tarts" to try together....DH couldn't find them in the store, so ordered some (along with other things) on amazon, and they arrived today. Should be...interesting.

Dd and I got our errands and grocery shopping done.

Came home and put everything away.

Dh helped me unpack a pile of Chewy boxes (saw that you were doing the same, Jean!🙂).

Fed horses, dogs, and cats.

Texted with the boys.

Thought I was done for the day, then remembered (much to my dismay) that I had a huge pile of laundry that needed hanging and folding, plus I still needed to wash my two favorite blankets so they'd be done by bedtime.

Got that done and all I have left is drying one more load of laundry.

Just reading the news now, and then I'm going to lay down on the couch and have puppy snuggle time.

Ah, so, they are a pretzel for the pastry part, and the filling is either chocolate (which is what we bought), or cinnamon. I assume maybe there will be more flavors later?? (These just debuted after the Super Bowl).

The chocolate filled was good! Sweet/salty mix, because of the pretzel, which was nice. We all agreed, this is one pop tart that would actually benefit from being toasted (we are a "straight out of the package" family normally, with the kids throwing some flavors in the fridge/freezer).  I was very skeptical at first, but I could see these being a little bit addicting of a snack food, if you aren't opposed to pop tarts in general. (I admittedly am not).
