caedmyn Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 I've run out of books to read and need some new recommendations. I prefer mysteries but open to other fiction as long as it's not romance or horror. Or sci fi. Looking for books that are fairly clean (limited cussing and little to no sex scenes). I enjoy reading Agatha Christie, Patricia Wentworth (another old-fashioned British mystery writer), Louis L'amour, John Grisham. I used to read Anne Perry and liked her books, but she seems to regularly pick extremely sordid crimes (probably not surprising given her past), and I stopped reading her books because of this. Quote
mmasc Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 (edited) I like mostly British cozy mysteries, so maybe some of my books will suit you. 🙂 I’ve enjoyed the series by TE Kinsey. The main characters are a lady (ex-spy) and her lady’s maid. https://smile.amazon.com/Quiet-Life-Country-Hardcastle-Mystery-ebook/dp/B01ER14CRY/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?keywords=te+kinsey&qid=1580183905&sr=8-7 I also like the Flavia de Luce books by Alan Bradley. https://smile.amazon.com/Sweetness-Bottom-Pie-Flavia-Mystery/dp/0385343493/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=alan+bradley+flavia+de+luce+series&qid=1580183980&sprefix=alan+bradley&sr=8-3 and there’s only two of these books in the series, but I really enjoyed them. https://smile.amazon.com/Under-English-Heaven-Mystery-mystery-ebook/dp/B00KOSUU3U/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=under+an+english+heaven&qid=1580184046&sprefix=under+an+english&sr=8-3 eta: I *love* the books by Caroline Graham. It’s been a while since I’ve read them so I can’t remember all of the details. They definitely weren’t scary or anything, but maybe not quite as cozy as the books I listed above. But they’re really good!https://smile.amazon.com/Killings-Badgers-Drift-Inspector-Barnaby-ebook/dp/B00OMCD5V8/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=caroline+graham+inspector+barnaby+books&qid=1580184269&sprefix=caroline+graha&sr=8-3 Edited January 28, 2020 by mmasc Quote
ScoutTN Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 Have you read Ellis Peters' Cadfael series? Or Josephine Tey? Dorothy Sayers? I've read recently and enjoyed Leif Enger's Peace Like A River. Quote

ashfern Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 I love Brad Meltzer. He's the only "mystery" author that keeps me guessing until the end. Technically, I think he's in the thriller genre. No blood & gore and I can't recall any of his books with explicit romantic scenes. Quote
