ProudGrandma Posted January 19, 2020 Posted January 19, 2020 (edited) I need to buy a gift for a young man who is a freshman in college. He lives at home. He is pre-med and loves swimming for competition. He lives in New York City....for what that is worth. I just need a general type of gift. Any ideas for me? Edited January 19, 2020 by kfeusse Quote
Jaybee Posted January 19, 2020 Posted January 19, 2020 (edited) Gas, restaurant (esp. fast food types), coffee shop, etc., gift cards are popular around here for college students, both for dorm students and those living at home. If you don't want cards, dri-fit shirts are well-liked, too. ETA: And SmartWool socks. Edited January 19, 2020 by Jaybee 1 Quote
ashfern Posted January 19, 2020 Posted January 19, 2020 In addition to the suggestions above, a really nice hat & glove set. 1 Quote
Kareni Posted January 19, 2020 Posted January 19, 2020 My daughter asked for a juggling set when she was a freshman in college. Since he's pre-med, how about a Giant microbe stuffed toy? See here. Regards, Kareni Quote
prairiewindmomma Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 If he's in NYC, odds are he isn't driving a lot of places. I'd look at google maps near his university and see what restaurants are there and get a giftcard---Chipotle, Starbucks, whatever. My student at home who is commuting to college complains most about: packing lunches, needing to use backup battery devices to charge things while on campus, and dealing with weather. He takes public transport and so is walking in winter weather---backpack covers, wool socks, and leakproof commuter tumblers for warm drinks are all things on his wish list right now. Quote
