Up early to work on my boy's math. His new school uses a Glencoe worktext and it moves too fast with too little review for Ds. I was too tired to deal with it last night.

 Now: coffee and math

Later:

  • Ds to school
  • McKay
  • Make appt.
  • Check on carpool for next Tues, tux rental, and birthday party
  • YNAB
  • Tutoring schedule
  • Library
  • Pick up Ds
  • AHG things.
  • Dinner is mexican.

  • co-op
  • make a haircut appointment for ds
  • grocery store to get food for weekend and a party tomorrow night (if we don't have potential tornadoes and have to cancel)

Good morning!

Looks like we'll be hunkering down and staying home for the weekend, as a storm is coming through later today through Sunday. Freezing rain to start with, followed by up to a foot of snow.

  • office work - bills
  • make a grocery trip before the weather starts
  • post office
  • bank
  • get coffee with dd and ds19
  • stop at vet to pick up Dasuquin
  • make banana berry oat cookies for dh
  • dinner: ?? might pick up something in town
  • stay up late and keep an eye on the weather tonight - if there is ice accumulation, we'll have to go out and spread sand and lime in the paddocks. Fingers crossed for just snow, no ice!

Good morning!

Today, is....

...coffee
...school prep for Monday
....DS14 history stuff
....class description pages
....work on the star quilt
...dinner?? check the freezer, see what I can do there
....make sure DS19 packs what he needs to go back to school
....maybe actually finally take down Christmas today
....movie? game night? We can't stay up too late as we have an early morning tomorrow
...OH! call the psych and see if she was able to move up DS22's appt, and if not, call the insurance for info on getting a crisis appt; everyone is pushing that, so....

pic of current progress; applique is DONE and pinned in place, took longer to cut away from the temp background and get pinned just right so I didn't sew it on last night) -- I need to sew the applique in place, and then pin the layers together (top, batting, back) and start the quilting; I am in good shape on time, so if it only gets basted today, that is okay and quilt next week (friend leaves town on 1/25).  Friend is impressed, I am beyond thrilled with it. here's hoping the quilting goes well too.

Such a cool quilt!

Thank you! My friend "designed"it more or less -- she lives part time in Mexico, and wants something to hang in her kitchen (there's a tall wall, so it's going up high). She asked for this design after seeing one I did for a friend, and swapped it to Mexico flag colors, picked out the fabric, and then wanted the bird applique (it's the nat'l bird of Mexico) in the center. That was *FUN* to build/create; I need to guestimate the hours I spent on that.....I forgot to write down my time. It was a LOT of fun to make though.

I'm relieved she's happy with it, LOL! She's somewhat picky, so....and it coming from her head/her vision, and trying to bring it to life accurately.....eek! But she loves it so far so, whew!

Your quilts are amazing!

Continuing to pray for good help for your ds.

Aww, thank you! I absolutely love quilting, and it's been good --great-- "therapy" for me right now!

And thank you, I am actually fairly relaxed on that at the moment and really, truly feel like the Feb 4th appt will be okay, but everyone else is making a lot of noise that it needs to be sooner. We'll see. If he were worsening, or having any dangerous thoughts, I'd agree with them, but....as bad as he's doing, he's been stable (and some minor improvement) since November, so....maybe I'm being naive or just not understanding things, but to *me* it seems like it would be worth waiting on the doctor we want. I looked at 20+ websites of doctors in the area that take our insurance, provided by our doctor, and read up on all of them -- education, specialties, experience, etc. -- then called several to check for appointments, talked with office staff about our son's current symptoms....I really don't want to throw all of that out 'just" to get in sooner w/someone.

Called the psych we have the appt with in Feb; she's closed on Fridays. Oops.

Called the insurance line to ask about a crisis appointment; the guy sent me a list of providers taking new patients. A quick check shows that over half are affiliated with a particular center in our area that we would not qualify to use; checking the others, most are ones I had previously ruled out. So, no real help there, but again, I personally feel like we're okay waiting for the Feb 4th appt, and that doctor knows we're trying to get in sooner, so maybe they'll be able to work something out.

But, that's off my to-do list now, so that's good.

Also took out sausage for dinner tonight; will do some sort of pasta thing.

Heading up to work on the quilt.

DONE with all my morning stuff, and then some.
Working on "school prep for Monday" and then will do DS14 History/Make DS19 pack for school, and then that's *it* until actually cooking/eating dinner.
If I finish up the afternoon stuff early, I'll start quilting the quilt - I got the applique sewn on, and got the top half of the quilt pin basted. I can quilt the top half and then move the pins to the bottom half.

It was a good first day back. Still need to get dinner figured out and make a list for the grocery store and get there. I'm about to sort laundry.

Replenished toilet paper

took out recycling

cleaned and reset up Juliet’s automatic waterer.

Finished grading my very last homeschool history assignment. Dd had doubled and tripled her assignments so that she is all done with that subject for the year. (And probably forever since she hates history).

Howdy, happy Friday!

I have lots of work to do that I didn't get to yesterday - mainly because my computer was working so slow (still is).  I'll get on that after this post.

One big client project finally closed today, after a number of frustrating false starts.  A whole team has been working on this since June!  Phew!  Now I need to remember to do the books for the close, on time ....

Also, my kid's ex-science teacher agreed to write her a reference for Zoo Crew, so that is great news.

So far done:

  • Set lots of alarms to get kid up at 6am.  She was doing homework until 11:30 last night and that was enough.
  • Slept poorly again, blah.  Woke at 4:something and remembered I needed to hang up kid's cheer uniform to dry so she could take it to school today.  Luckily it dries fast.  Went back to bed.
  • Got kid up about 6am.
  • Helped with math homework, helped get bags ready for school & cheer.  Helped with re-bandaging the still-oozing knee.  Breakfast and all that.
  • Kids made it to the bus a little early, yay!
  • Had 2 long freaking conversations about what a sucky mom and worker I am, again.  Because my kids' homework cut into their sleep time.  This is because they waited until the last minute to do a big assignment that I didn't know about in advance.  (They had 3 hours in aftercare to work on it, but they fooled around.)  But whatever.  I suck.
  • DId a bunch of housework in preparation for the maids to come.  Purged a bunch, finished all the laundry and cleared the laundry room, organized the Christmas mess, and more.  A stranger wouldn't know it by looking, because we still have so much crap.  It reminded me of many things I really want/need to do in the house now that the holidays are over.
  • Caught up on news, social media, emails, calendar.
  • Took a shower and all that stuff.  Did a little reading.  More than average amount of walking and stairs.
  • Checked on school stuff.  Returned teacher's text.
  • Got the maids started.
  • Trying to be good about my Invisalign and Posturator.

To do:

  • Various client work - hopefully nothing super stressful.
  • Hopefully clean my bedroom enough for the maids to dust and vacuum in here.
  • Should do my yoga and some more exercise.
  • Get cash for the maids.  Maybe do a FedEx run for a client.
  • Kid1 (and maybe Kid2) at school basketball game; need to go pick up for dinner in between 2 games.
  • Would love to have time to make a list of things to do over the weekend.  Kid 2's horse riding lesson, TKD for all 3 (2 classes), Kid1's cheerleading, house projects, homework/study; Kid2's horse show, Kid1's confirmation class, more house projects and homework/study.
  • Whatever else gets done.

Ok, I would really love to have a word with this person, because they are a huge jerk and full of cr@p. You are a great mom.

The grades for this week (so far) have improved noticeably.  Still not where they should be, but I am a lot less alarmed than I was about a month ago.

This weekend we will be doing some make-up and extra credit work.  Not sure what else.  Depends on time and cooperation.

I got a few quick work things done ... so I can say "yes" when asked "did you do ...."

Off to get a few more done so I can close files and reboot my computer.

Did school w/DS14 while waiting for the internet to reboot, after a 1 second power blip.

Called my mom who needed to be talked through whether to exchange (or not) an already very used looking air mattress that she purchased "new" a few weeks ago. (yes, mom, if it's missing parts, has rust stains, and won't inflate.....exchange it). I think she just wanted an excuse to chat.

DH got home early and both of us looked  at the other and said, "Are you taking a nap? I'll lay down too if you do...."  (Lay down? Lie down?) We both did. Two hours later, time to resume the school prep (I did get about 1/4 to 1/2 done before the power blip interrupted).

Shortly after I posted "off to do more work," I got an SOS call from a business partner who had locked herself out and her keys in our downtown office.  She had an hour to get to a meeting at another location.  Nobody else was available to bail her out fast enough.  Luckily, I happened to have a duplicate office key on my personal key ring.

So I had to drop everything, leave the maids home, drive to the office, and on the way back, drop my kid at school (to watch the basketball game and lend her sister money for a hotdog) and swing through the ATM for cash to pay the maids.

I got home about 6pm, so as far as I'm concerned, the work day was over.  After the maids left, I was blissfully alone in the house with nothing pressing to do.

Since then, I heard the garage open, which means one of my housemates / business partners is home.  Oh well.  It was nice while it lasted.

I guess I can go to the basketball game whenever I feel like it.  Game 2 starts at 7:45, so I guess I will work for another hour or so.

FINISHED school prep aside from the actual printing. I *should* have time tomorrow for that much, but both classes have history stuff prepped, science stuff prepped, I've looked over math and lang arts, and I should probably scramble for a craft *but* we have our evac drills so I'll plan free draw instead just in case (the drills use a lot of our time). And science is one that will take a bit as well for both classes (but be FUN and hands-on).

Cooking dinner, and that completes my list. Yay!

Dinner is made. Whew.

So you all don't be too jealous, though, I just posted this on FB -- "Got caught up on laundry this week! Yay!! Forgot to grocery shop this week! Boo!! At least we'll have clean clothes while we starve to death??? LOL!"  :sigh:

(no, we aren't *really* starving to death, obviously, thanks to a well stocked freezer and pantry, even if I am sorely lacking in fresh ingredients to add to things.......will shop in the morning, just thought this thread in particular would appreciate the "gee, I did so good! except, no I didn't!" aspect....)

Dinner is over and cleaned up. My homemade refried beans were yummy. Table is reset, kitchen is tidy, washer running.

Loaded glass for recycling in my car.

Next up:

Read and relax. Dh and kids are watching the first Avengers movie.

What kind of setting do you teach in?

I teach a once/week homeschool enrichment thing. I teach our K class and our 1st grade class, and next year will have 2nd grade also. Our "campus" offers stuff from K through HS, core classes and electives (past 2nd grade, it becomes a la carte).

My classes meet for 3 hrs (each), and I cover math, language arts, history, science, and we do some kind of craft, etc. usually (plus story time, sometimes Bible, etc....). I get to use/make my own curriculum, decide what to use; this is my 1st year with the 1st grade, so thus more prep than normal.

As I prep, though, I'm putting everything into week-by-week file folders so that next year, my prep will be *greatly* reduced. This year, there's a lot of searching Teachers Pay Teachers for coordinating activities, pulling together resources, making "lab report" pages for the science text I'm using, stuff like that.

That seems like a wonderful option for families!  I haven't taught K and 1st grade for a long time, but I loved it when I did.

It is; we enjoy it. Our boys have attended since we got back from Brazil, and it's really great.

And I am *loving* teaching K/1st; it's so much fun. I'd forgotten how delightful that age group is!

Took down the Christmas tree; separated the ball ornaments with *glitter* on them (yuck) because as I've added colors, we now have too many ornaments to fit on a tree. I'll take down the nativities tomorrow.

Heading up to watch TV with the family now.
