mlktwins Posted January 5, 2020 Posted January 5, 2020 I’ve never returned a gift I’ve received from Amazon before. I have the gift receipt and order number. If I return this item, will the buyer know it was returned? Also, would we get a credit for the return? I don’t want to hurt someone’s feeling so I’m asking here first 😬😁? How would shipping be handled? Would we need to pay for that? It is a little bigger than the size of a handheld vacuum. Trying to determine if it is worth my trouble. Quote

We just returned something for the first time. It says on Amazon's website that the buyer will not know the gift was returned. We received a prepaid label and dropped the package off at a UPS box and will receive a credit to our account for the return. 3 Quote

It is easy to do my own returns, but I've been looking around their site and not having much luck. Quote
gardenmom5 Posted January 5, 2020 Posted January 5, 2020 return shipping is usually incld, thought not always - depends on the item. some areas amazon offers a 'drop off". (we can drop off at kohl's here, among a few others. we have an amazon b&m, so I will drop off there.) 1 Quote

I keep trying to click on the shipping info link though and that is not working at the moment. When I start the return process, will it tell me how much shipping will be before I have to decide to proceed? It’s a $35 item, but I don’t want to pay a lot in shipping (not small nor light). Quote
Zebra Posted January 5, 2020 Posted January 5, 2020 If you are really worried about the gift giver finding out, I would strongly suggest you don't return it. We returned a gift, after calling up and being assured by Amazon that the gift giver would never find out. And all the emails about the return were cc'd to the gift giver. It was not a good situation because of the dysfunction of that particular relationship. So, I would just consider the potential fall-out if the person finds out. Because despite was Amazon says people do get notified sometimes. HTH! 1 Quote

I didn't have to pay shipping with my return. I received a prepaid shipping label to print out. 1 Quote

I would do the Contact Amazon phone call thing and have the rep set up the return label and verify that you won’t be charged for the return shipping. Ask the rep to send you an email stating you won’t be charged for the shipping and keep him or her on the line while you wait to receive the email. They do this all the time, so you’re not being a pest! The reason for the email is to have proof of what the rep told you, in case the shipping charges are accidentally deducted from your refund — and that does happen sometimes, but if you have the email, it will get straightened out immediately. 2 Quote
ashfern Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 My mom sent a gift to me and then mentioned about it being returned. It wasn't as I hadn't even opened the gift yet! Somehow, they gave her a refund even though I never returned the gift. So it is possible for the giver to know about a return. Quote
