For years my dining room has been a parlor with a grand piano in it.  My dining room table has been in the old schoolroom.  Since our piano players are grown and gone I've been trying to get rid of that thing.  No one has room for it.  FINALLY dh caved and told oldest dd she could sell it and take the money to buy herself a decent upright.  Other dd lives in an apartment with a full keyboard, no room for anything else.

She didn't get what we paid for it but it's sold and the movers are coming Monday.  Now I can put my dining room table where it belongs and turn that schoolroom into an awesome playroom for the grandkids!!

I am easy to please.  Just do what I say.

ETA- what do I need for the best playroom for kids 1-7?  It's a big room, a bit larger than a two car garage.

I have duplos, a wooden train set with more track than you can imagine, books (lots of books!), a variety of trucks and fisher price stuff.  This all fits behind my couch in my living room.....   I have a swing downstairs, and some tunnels that we get out sometimes.  If I had more space I’d have a climbing wall or a gym set, and probably some riding toys.

Fun! You most definitely need a play kitchen with play food and dishes. Loved by all and will get lots of use with those ages! It would be just perfect.

Congrats on getting the space back!

One thing my mom did with my kids that I really appreciated:  each kid had their own space in one of the closets (think cubby)  with their own special blanket, stuffed animal, special books.  My dd16 still goes straight to that closet every time we visit and wraps up in that blanket!

Wooden unit blocks it kapla blocks.

Other huge hits here were little people sets, doll house (FP Loving Family), Legos and Playmobil.

I would avoid anything that takes batteries😀

Look up Reggio Emilia rooms on Pinterest for my ideal.

I would have rain gutter bookshelves; lots of blocks and legos; a separate area for the littlest; an overhead projector for light play; comfy seating; a big, low table; and lots of loose parts. I would set up a small world and a place for art.
