DawnM Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 I have been watching a friend's dog for 5 months. The dog will be leaving this weekend because I have had to tell them I can't do it anymore. I thought it was 30-60 days but they haven't been able to sell their house out of state, and they have even taken it off the market for a while, which means at least 3 more months. He keeps escaping and the neighbors are complaining. We can't do it anymore. So I guess he wanted to make a last impression 😂 He whined all night long. I didn't hear him but my son did. This am I went down there. Diarrhea EVERYWHERE! All over the blankets in the cage, all over the cage floor, all over the walls behind the cage, etc..... I have no idea what could have made him so sick. 5 Quote
school17777 Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 Oh no! You can give the dog a tums (I believe- I can take a picture of the box for you) to help settle his stomach. My dog is 8 lbs and gets half a pill when she has an upset stomach. 1 Quote
DawnM Posted January 2, 2020 Author Posted January 2, 2020 I hope he is ok today. DH and I both have to go in to work and leave the kids with the dog. Quote
Pawz4me Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 Dogs are just like people—they can get a tummy bug/virus that causes diarrhea. I’d withhold food for awhile but make sure he stays hydrated. 2 Quote
PrincessMommy Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 (edited) My dog used to escape and go to a neighbors house and I think get into trash. Once he got terribly sick like this. It lasted for days. It was terrible. This dog probably ate something that has made him sick. At the very least, when he starts back up on food start him with boiled chicken and rice. Then slowly start exchanging part of this with his dog food until he's back to just dog food. When my dog was sick like this I had to get up several times in the middle of the night to let him out. It was that or diarrhea on my floor. Edited January 2, 2020 by PrincessMommy 1 Quote
DawnM Posted January 2, 2020 Author Posted January 2, 2020 I threw away the blankets that were in his cage. No way to get that all up easily and not worth it to me. We hosed down his tray in his cage and cleaned the cage as best I could. I also lysoled the walls and floor. But an hour later, it still STUNK in there. I think it has permeated. YUCK. I think he got into some trash. He was into old turkey and I am hoping he didn't get into any bones. ARGH! Quote

I would put trays of baking soda in the area and see if that helps deoderize (it really helped with my smoke smelling house after a kitchen fire). Quote
