Christian read alouds for youth (need recs)

Recommended Posts

Looking for recommendations for Christian read aloud books for youth. While we've enjoyed stuff like Narnia, we're looking for something a bit deeper right now. Recently, we've been enjoying books like Hinds' feet on high place, the new Pilgrim's progress, the Trailblazers series of missionary biographies, and Kisses from Katie. I'd love to find more books in the same vein.

We also read/discussed a lot of books throughout the middle school/high school years on apologetics, worldview, Christian living, inspirational, devotional, etc. Below I've copy-pasted a list from a past post of mine. Note: some titles were written for adults, so those might click better in high school or even college:

- The Tombs of Atuan (LeGuin)
- The Great and Terrible Quest (Lovett)
- Hind's Feet on High Places (Hurnard)
- The Singer; The Song; The Finale (Miller)

So much depends on what your theological background is.  For all that I don’t love Lord of the Rings, it would be good.  Best class I took in seminary was Philosophy of C. S. Lewis, and his stuff is pretty accessible, so I would use him pretty extensively.  Rachel Held Evans, Nadia Bolz-Weber, Girl Meets God by Lauren Winner (and the Mitford books), Barbara Brown Taylor, Madeleine L’Engle, Finding God in the Waves would work well for my family but not necessarily others.
