What kind of pot steams vegetables and boils at the same time?

I was talking to someone last week who said that when she first moved out she only had one burner, so she'd often end up making these mixed meals where something was boiled in the bottom pot while vegetables steamed in the top.

I would love to have something like that, but all my searches bring up are steaming bowls that sit inside of a pot and microwave or instapot accessories.

Does anyone have any idea what those pots are called? It's a whole pot of boiling food in the bottom an apparatus to steam vegetables on top of that.

Sounds like a standard steamer, like a double-boiler with a stranger insert. We happen to have two different sizes. Normally I just put enough water in the bottom pan to stream whatever is in the top, bit I suppose you could put more water in and then boil something at the same time.

Here's an example.

IKEA pot with stabil steamer insert. I bought two inserts since I steam gyoza in one and Chinese buns in the other. You can cook rice using the bottom pot.

This is the IKEA pot I prefer https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/ikea-365-pot-with-lid-stainless-steel-glass-10256750/

This IKEA pot can be use with the steamer insert as well https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/oumbaerlig-pot-with-lid-90286423/

If you buy a full set of pots and pans, a steamer pot is often one of the pieces.

Just don't be like (a much younger and more stupid) me and get rid of it because you don't know what it is. I'm searching my cabinets for something to steam dumplings in tomorrow night...and realizing that I likely donated it years ago. (I KNOW I had one...thinking maybe I thought it was for draining noodles...)🙄
