Jentrovert Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 The lines around my eyes don't bother me, but those across my forehead are getting deeper and they do bother me. They make me look older in kind of a mean-looking way, not an 'I've spent a lot of time smiling' way. Anyone have experience, tips, etc. you'd be comfortable sharing? Quote
Negin Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 I don't know much about Botox, but my daughter does. She's really into skin care. The problem with Botox, as I know it. is that you have to keep on doing it and the results are only temporary. Also, if done incorrectly or overly done, it may look fake and all that. Have you tried prescription-strength Retin-A and/or looked into microneedling? Quote
Jentrovert Posted December 22, 2019 Author Posted December 22, 2019 Yes, having to do it regularly is one thing that's holding me back. I've read that for best results you want to do it early so that the deep wrinkles don't become more permanent (or something like that). And do small amounts to avoid the frozen look. I haven't done microneedling. I'm using rx strength Retin A, but have only been using it a few weeks so still working up to every day. I kind of feel weird even being concerned about it. It's not really like me. As I said, the lines around my eyes aren't bothersome--I actually kind of like them. But there's just something about these forehead lines that make me feel OLD. The biggest thing is make sure wherever you go, you know an actual IRL person who has gone there, and you have seen their face before and after, and you go to that exact person who did friend/family members. Not just the same facility. Not all injectors are equally skilled. One family member had the 11's on the forehead and wow, the Botox really make a huge difference on that, and yet I'd never have known she had something done. It was very natural. A friend went to a place she had gone to many times with great results, but they switched nurses and the new nurse was horrible at it. Friend looked like she had Bell's palsy for many weeks afterward. Nicole Kidman, Meg Ryan, and many celebs like that are what have kept me from ever doing it (or anything else). I figure they can afford better than I can, and if they come looking out like freaks, the odds are not with me. The people I know who get it, got tired of the up keep after a while and stopped. My Mom, in all of her kind tact, has offered me Botox every year for my bday since I turned 30 as a wrinkle preventative. Thanks, but I'll stick with all of my various acids instead. But if I had to pick, I'd experiment with Botox long before fillers. Those are really scary when they go wrong. Botox at least wears off. Good advice, thank you. There are a number of dr offices offering it in my area, just regular gp's and np's. I always think, how much experience can they have??? If I do it, I want someone who does it every day. I'm going to have to ask around, I don't think any of my friends have done it, but probably some acquaintances have. Quote
sassenach Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 I've been looking at those silicone patches that you're supposed to wear overnight. The whole benefit of botox, as I understand it, is that you don't scrunch your face to form/deepen those wrinkles. The patches do the same thing overnight. IDK if they actually work but I can imagine in the long run, they might slow some things down. 1 Quote

I see a dermatologist once/twice a year for fillers including botox. He is very light handed and the results are incredibly natural, I am very pleased and as a psychotherapist my face is what people tend to focus on. It has been a win for me. How did you pick the doctor? And can you share ballpark prices? Alley Quote

I attribute this to the dermatologist who understands that I do not mind getting older, I just don't want to look so old, but real. This is exactly what I would like. Quote
Caraway Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 I did it once and I loved the way it looked. I went to a skilled person who did it a lot with results I had seen. HOWEVER after I had it done I had a few days of feeling horrible. I am afraid to do it again because the side effects can be somewhat random and in some cases escalating. It also made my eyes incredibly sensitive to light. I feel like as a person with a bunch of autoimmune issues I shouldn’t be injecting Botox into my face. I’m trying to ignore how much I hate the lines between my eyebrows. 1 Quote

I must furrow my brow terribly when I sleep. You have to use them consistently. They don't make my lines disappear, of course, but they do make them less deep. They didn't seem to make as much of a difference when used on my forehead. Edited December 23, 2019 by MercyA 2 Quote
readinmom Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 I have no personal experience with fillers. I did start a concentrated face regimen last April, started watching Hot and Flashy on YouTube, invested in a NuFace. Since starting NuFace, I can definitely tell a difference around my cheek and forehead area. The only way I can describe it is my forehead is definitely more "relaxed." I had one particular spot from squinting that is just about gone. It was an expensive investment, but bought this during Nordstrom's annual sale. I am going to give this some time before deciding on more intensive alternatives. 1 Quote

I got it specifically to try to lift my hooded eyes a bit (one side had started drooping quite low), which it does, but since I have it I use it all over my face too. I haven't noticed any change in these forehead wrinkles though. They are so deep that the small attachment doesn't glide over them easily, if that makes sense. I have to go slow or it just bumps over them. 1 Quote
