DawnM Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 So, my dad is saying he will move here by summer, but may come stay with us a while and then go back to AZ and then move. He will be staying with us enough that I am now thinking we need to look at chairlifts. He cannot do stairs well and our house doesn't have a first floor bedroom. That was one thing I said I had wanted in a house that I didn't get and now kind of wish I had gotten, but how was I to know? Anyway, if you know anything about them, are chairlifts all pretty much the same? Anything specific we need to think about? I see a lot of them available used, when someone (like us) installs them and then the person passes away or goes into residential care, etc..... A brand I see quite a bit is Acorn. Anyone have one or know someone with one or know more than I do about them? And yes, I know how to google, but I have limited time right now and thought I would ask. Thanks. Quote
Arctic Bunny Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 (edited) I have done a small amount of research. I would suggest looking at the same accessibility places that rent walkers/wheelchairs/etc. There is a place here that also rents the full stair chair lift, and that might be worth it if you knew it was temporary. DawnM Posted December 19, 2019 Author Posted December 19, 2019 Thanks. I looked it up. I think since he is moving this way, and there may be other times he needs to stay with us or come over, we would be looking at too long to make the rental cheaper than buying. There are refurbished ones for under $1500. My husband is (thankfully) really good at home repairs, building, etc....and this shouldn't be difficult for him to install. Quote
Arctic Bunny Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 Fair enough! Sorry I don’t have any firsthand knowledge of brands, etc. Quote
Arctic Bunny Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 And, BTW, I’m sorry that this is an addition to your mental burden. You’ve got so much ! Quote
