Dmmetler Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 I have my first recital for my community center program tomorrow. 14 piano students and the 7 kids from my homeschool orchestration class. Schedule was arranged months ago. Program was dropped off for printing Weds. Weds, everything looked great. As of about 15 minutes, the program needs to be completely rearranged to accommodate two kids who's other coaches/directors have given them far earlier report tImes because the parade organizers are shutting the route off earlier this year-I'd planned based on last year's schedule because that was what was available when I needed to book the room), and the two kids who are in both the teen ensemble and playing solos are sick. Mom is taking them to the doctor this morning, and hoping that they will be better, but isn't optimistic. I'm sure it will go fine and the parents will be proud of their kids, but I am trying to fight a panic attack. 1 Quote
Lecka Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 Listen to the part of yourself saying it will be fine and parents will be proud. I am impressed you are running a recital! What a wonderful opportunity for the kids 🙂. Quote
Lecka Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 Oh, I hope I am not being flippant. I would be nervous, too! A walk, making tea, listening to music, deep breaths — these are things that might help me. I do not like last-minute changes, either! Quote
katilac Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 Event planning used to be a big part of my job. We used to say that something is always going to go wrong, so just be happy when it's not disastrous, lol. And doubly happy when it happens before the event instead of during. One of my co-workers used to say: No need to panic, but it is time to get very excited and energetic! It will be great! Have fun. 1 1 Quote

If the information in the program is mostly correct, you might be able to get away with an updated set list and an explanation. I wouldn’t reprint bios/photos/adds just because the order of the acts got switched up. I’d just insert a simple half page with the new order. I’d do this for three reasons: 1. Too little time 2. The expense of reprinting 3. Something could change tomorrow making your reprints wrong and that will push you over the edge. This stuff always happens when you have a show like this. It helps to embrace it as part of the process rather than being surprised or annoyed every time. Backstage is a messy place. 1 Quote
wintermom Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 Most recitals I've been to in the 15 years my dc have been in music have been printed on a personal printer - black and white most often. Only one is typically colour and prof printed, and this one has been the source of stress due to last minute changes. Hope everything goes really well! 1 Quote
Pen Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 Ack! I’d be feeling huge stress too! and agree with you it will probably be fine! (or else a funny story to tell 5 years down road of your first time doing it) ((((Hugs)))). And virtual flowers 💐 🌹and chocolate 🍫 !!! 1 Quote
