Aha, it is December ladies. Sorry I missed that yesterday.

It's the last month of 2019, let's make it count. Time to finish out our goals for the year.

This month I will be doing Beach Body's Morning Meltdown, I'll finish it the first week of 2020.

I'll also be continuing the Ultimate Pull-Up Program, currently on Phase 3. Hoping to have that deadhang pullup by the end of the year.

I've added in some walk/running.

I'm continuing to aim for 10k+ steps a day and improved sleep.

Happy December!

Husband reminded me that I can swing my shift to take a long lunch and exercise in daylight.  I plan to NW on Wednesday at lunchtime, when the tide is low and the weather should be okay.

Apart from that, I'll be walking, doing yoga at home (aiming at strength) and possibly in class, trying to meditate daily.  I've eaten much too much pie in the last few days, but I brought most of it in for my colleagues this morning, so pie season will soon be over...  I'm keeping my Precision Nutrition goals in mind.

Today I'm walking with a friend at lunchtime, then hoping to do a good yoga session at home this evening.  Turkey with lots of veg/salad for supper.

ETA: I just tried the flamingo twist while waiting for the photocopier, and worked out the weight shift so that I don't fall over.  So I should be able to do it as part of tonight's sequence.  Hooray!

December goals...

Finish my 10,000 kettlebell swing challenge

Improve specific issues with my CKD kicks

Not snack while cooking (being faithful to my nutrition plan helps me be more disciplined with my training and vice versa)

@soror hope you get improved sleep this month and get that pullup!

Thank you for the encouragement and good thoughts, I need it!

Good food does make such a difference in how we feel and perform.

Great plan for shifting work, great job being flexible. I'm so happy you conquered the twist, you had the strength and balance, you just needed practice, it is so exciting to conquer something new. I forgot to list nutrition goals but I'm keeping on with the Precision Nutrition goals, it is stupid easy to track and my eating feels balanced again (both amounts and what). I'll likely continue through December and then re-evaluate, I prefer not to track at all long term but this is easy enough I might try sticking with it awhile. It helps me keep intention and focus without having to spend too much time or attention.

Off to workout ladies, I'll check in later.

Thanks for starting the December thread! I missed the month switch, too.

My goals are to keep walking, hiking, and playing tennis, adding in snowshoeing and skate skiing when possible with snow conditions.  Food-wise I'll be continuing to explore different foods and seeing what feels good, what doesn't and waiting to see what's in store with my bile duct.

I'll also be decluttering and doing indoor home repairs in preparation for our big move! I need to make a list and see what we'll need expert help with and what we can tackle on our own.

Workouts done this am, I felt so much better this am vs. last Monday, when I was tired and bleeding heavy. My perceived exertion was less this week but I kept my heart rate higher, FB counted 3x as many active minutes.

I'm very much enjoying my oats, pb, banana, and lean turkey sausage this am!

Hello, WTBs!

I am so happy you have kept this thread going throughout the year. I have been so busy with work that I have gone months without checking into TWTM a mixed blessing, I think).

My fitness continues to be on a pendulum. I lose some weight and then gain it right back. I get fit and then something goes wrong physically. This past year I was tested for ALS, MS, fibromyalgia, a stroke, and so many other things it's impossible to remember. I've seen multiple doctors and was referred to the Mayo Clinic. Currently, we know a couple of things. The biggest is that I have a strong negative reaction to Prozac. All of those symptoms listed on page 8 of the information sheet? Yeah, I ended up with most of those. Not fun.

As of now, I am back in the swing (a tennis pun) of things and doing everything I can. We are waiting for the next  episode/flare/whatever you want to call it so the doctors at the Mayo Clinic can run more tests. At least the drive is pretty.

I am on the keto diet and we are seeing changes (albeit slow changes) in my body composition. I have lost 18 pounds and am the smallest I have been in 15 years. I'm at a stall right now but we are working through it and I hope to achieve normal weight in the next couple of months.

Collegiate tennis is in the off season for the next 7 weeks and I am going to focus on my own fitness and workouts. This is the final season of (head) coaching for me and I am going to use it to my full advantage.

I hope to be able to post lots of progress this month.

Warmly,

TAC

So good to see you again! Really sorry to hear about your health issues. This is a good place to share, as many of us are struggling with health stuff along with staying fit, keeping body weight in line, and eating well. Congratulations on the head coaching position! That is exciting.

The move is pretty official - if I can say that. We don't have the official papers, and the gov could back out, but it's looking very solid. I'm too excited to curb my enthusiasm right now. If we get disappointing news, then I'll deal with that later. Enjoy the moment while it lasts! 😁

@wintermom Half the fun of something is enjoying the excitement of planning, expecting, etc.!

Did a 40 min HIIT workout this morning consisting of 10 kb swings, 10 goblet squats, 10 pushups, then the next round is 10 swings, 9 squats, 9 pushups, on down to 10 swings, 1 squat, 1 pushup.  I was going to do a second, different combo after, but I was pretty much wiped out from that one, lol.  Plus I'm fairly sore.  On plan with my eating so far today...hopefully I can keep that up.  I'm in the high hormone phase so energy is low and the drive to stuff my face is strong!

CKD tonight!  I may have a little coffee with my afternoon snack to give me a boost.

I'm working through the #ALLORNOTHING challenge through beach body.  I have just over 2 weeks left.  I tried running the other day and couldn't stop coughing.  Inhaler didn't help much.  I guess it's exercise induced whatever.   Not worth going to specialist for  testing when there are still plenty of exercises I can do.  I do miss running out side though.

I took the poodle for a long walk this morning. It was a very fruitful walk as I scoped out all the houses with similar windows to ours to find out what I think looks good and what doesn't. We have a bay window on the front of the house that needs replacing. It's so expensive to replace the entire unit, but it's pretty much the only thing to do (at least judging by the windows in the neighbourhoods around here).

Managed my strength yoga last night.  My lunch break will be truncated due to graduation celebrations at work.  Then we are going to see Knives Out this evening.  So I suspect this is a rest day.  Not a bad thing as I have a cold hanging around.

How did the flamingo twist go?? I hope you have a good evening and the cold is gone soon. We've had so many weather changes here my sinuses have been acting up, I can't decide if it is allergies, the weather, or a little cold but today is better.

Going to take the morning off from strength training--I'm exceptionally sore all over right now, plus it's 31 degrees outside!  Yardwork this afternoon.

Sounds like a rest day is needed, you have been working hard.

Went for a nice walk with friends this afternoon. It was really nice. Took my ds to the first homeschool basketball session only to find out we were a week early. He was pretty bummed. I guess Dec. 2 looks a lot like Dec. 9 to my aged eyes. 😉

LOL, my eyes are fine but I screw up dates way too often than I should, we have to omany things to keep track of.

I am so sorry you are having trouble with asthma, it always seems unfair to me when people who want to exercise have exercise induced asthma or other issues preventing them from doing what they love. Glad you have exercise you enjoy inside.

30 min HIIT this am

Having oats, banana, bit of PB, small sprinkle of nuts and lean turkey sausage now (I guess after a kick of eggs I'm back on oats)

The gym is starting a BUTI Yoga class, once upon a time I thought about becoming a teacher as it looked fun. It is on Thursdays, technically I could go but if I did dh would have to drive in to pick up the kids or they'd have to just sit and wait. I'm also concerned doing HIIT that late will shoot up my adrenaline and jack up my sleep. I think I'll try it when my friend is available but there is no way it would work as a weekly thing, too bad it wasn't at 5:30, then it would work perfectly, sigh... Really I'm not necessarily looking for more exercise anyway, it just looked fun.

@soror the Flamingo Twist went well, thank you.  The subsequent flamingo-twist-straight-to-lunge was still silly talk, but I'll get there.  My Crow is developing though.

Ya, that is great progress! Good job on the crow too. The kids and I did a program a few years ago where we practiced crow for time, we worked towards holding for a minute. That consistent practice made a difference quickly as I had never practiced it for time before. I only do it sporadically now though and have not timed it in ages. It is a great pose for core, flexibility, and upper body work.

Haven't really had checked in for a while on what I'm doing... keeping up with going to OT 5x/week.  I think I said I started running on some days (rather than walking).  Still not running on hills - I revert to walking, lol, even if the "hills" are much steeper.  Longest run so far was a 23-min run for distance, which did have some 'base' recovery mixed in, where I did walk - but I did manage just over 2 miles in that time.

Trying not to eat to much with all the Thanksgiving leftovers still hanging around the house.  I may have been eating pie for lunch the past few days... they are my homemade pies, which I've tried to make as healthy as possible.  50% whole-wheat crust, I tried all-butter this year (it's better than hydrogenated Crisco!), and none of the pies have more than 2 Tablespoons added sugar, which was either molasses or succanat (used stevia for the rest of the sweetening, plus fruit is already sweet).  So, pie is just fruit and whole grains, right???

The pies came out very well, actually, just felt guilty that my SIL, who's vegan, couldn't eat them because of the butter.  She often 'cheats' on holidays, but it would be nice not to make her do that.  She brought a pecan pie that was vegan but full of corn syrup - one slim piece of that on Thanksgiving day itself was my cheat! I may try Earth Balance sticks next year instead of the butter - has anyone ever tried those?

For me, the key is playing with it.  Hitching my legs securely onto my arms and then rocking back and forth by inches, lifting a toe, then a foot, then both feet.  That forward momentum can be a disaster!

I finished Beachbody Morning Meltdown 100 on Nov. 30! Dec. 1 I had a rest day with a bit of yoga, and then yesterday I started beachbody 80 day obsession.  I've been playing around with some recipes from Clean Food Crush and have found some winners.  The Mexican Chicken soup was great, and both of the baked oatmeal recipes we've tried have been delicious.  I also made a crustless quiche and sliced it up for easy breakfasts.  It's almost gone already, my kids love it!

Pfft, pies- whole grains, fats, and fruit sounds yummy! I've never used earth balance sticks, it wasn't around when I was dairy free. I did use palm shortening back then some and it worked fine but I've never been a pie gal (if I do it has been a crustless pumpkin). Great job increasing the cardio!

_____________________________________________________

Lifting last night, good session, upped weights on rows, practiced pinch plates for farmer carries- very good for finger grip practice. I dropped the weight 3times! AFter a fall of flu, allergies etc where I kept losing strength it is nice to be on the way up again.

During the kid's second class I did 1mile walk at 12 incline and then 1.5 miles of running/jogging.

Running mostly feels boring, my heart rate goes up but I didn't feel gassed or winded. I think I'll keep at this distance for December, maybe add .5 miles a month. IDK sounds like a plan to me.

November was a mess for me. Between my anniversary and Thanksgiving, it was my worst eating since May and I’m feeling it. My inflammation is way up. I still managed to lose a pound in November but  it’s hard to celebrate it. I also went a full week without working out last week because having my eldest home threw things into chaos. sigh.

This week I will get to the gym twice. Three times if I’m lucky. Last week of regular classes, so I should get on track next week with workouts.

Overall I’m feeling motivated to get back on track and stay the course. Looking forward to W30 in January.

Or they just want to make money on a new "catch phrase" that seems to say something NEW.  It doesn't actually mean that much as far as molecules go and whether anyone knows how "good" or "bad" the food is for us (and from who's point of view), but the hype is contagious for many people.

My dentist told me that if I eat less frequently it would be better for my teeth. Everytime you eat and drink (other than plain water), there is more bacteria in the mouth and more opportunity for bad stuff happening to your teeth.

It's snowing! Gorgeous flakes falling (straight down, so not much wind) - and I don't have to drive anywhere!  I'll be out there enjoying the weather by walking. For now, I'm cleaning the kitchen (at least the surfaces) for a realtor walk-through. My big question is: Where do I store the clutter during the walk-through? The garage is too cold and full of other clutter.

Another KB Challenge workout for me this morning in 30 degree weather (cue Florida girl whining).  This one included chin ups, 30 spread out in sets of singles, two, and threes.  I was only able to do 15 total in singles, but it was better than I expected so I'm gonna call that a win.  So far I have done 1500 of the 10,000 total swings.  Looooong way to go, but I'm enjoying the challenge!  CKD tonight.

I've been very faithful to my eating plan since Friday and the beginning of my KB challenge, and have lost 1.6 lbs.  I'm deep in MUST EAT EVERYTHING time of the month, so I'm reporting that small progress here keep my motivation up by telling someone, lol.

I think maybe the word just inspires me to eat better.

What is "clean food?" I get vegetable straight from a garden and it's loaded with dirt. It's the best tasting stuff and I enjoy seeing the dirt - probably eat some, too. Perhaps I'm too literal. 😉

My walk today was great! I combined it with walking my ds 17 to his physio appointment, and then walked on to the grocery store. I carried home the groceries, partly in my backpack and partly by hand, so I got some upper-body resistance work built right in.

I also finished cleaning and decluttering the kitchen counters. The place is looking better than it has in a couple years!

Kb Challenge workout #4 done, and it was a much better session than yesterday.  500 swings in sets, 50 pushups in sets of 2s, 3s, and 5s, done in 0:47.  This afternoon will be more heavy-duty yardwork at my parents' property.  Feeling pretty fit and energetic right now, yay!  I imagine the crash as I collapse onto the couch tonight will be audible in 3 counties, haha.

WTG you cleaning the house and combining exercise with your daily activities is wonderful.

Walk in evening yesterday and 23 minute HIIT this morning.

Tonight is lifting, I'll do an incline walk if I have time, and BUTI yoga with my friend if she can make it.

Oh I totally agree with you ladies, but the site does have some great recipes.  I don't always agree with their definition of "clean" eating either.  For example, many recipes call for almond "milk" or some other form of what I call nut juice.  That's way more processed than actual milk from a cow.  Anyway, I have an actual milk cow, so obviously I use real milk for all my recipes.

I TOTALLY agree about the highly processed "milk" available. There is nothing "clean" about putting oats, nuts or rice in a super blender. And they add a bunch of stuff to the "milk" so it doesn't separate. If people want non-milk, they need to try to make it themself and then see how "clean" it is.

Coconut milk can be better, though it depends. You have to check the label. If you get it straight from a whole coconut there is a better chance of no additives.

I use almond milk, I've never liked cows milk and have even had the 'good' stuff as my friend has a grassfed dairy. Blech. It is really a bit of flavored water but work in things like my oats, smoothie, and chai tea. I tried making my own nut and oat milks but my blender is not good enough it all separated and just wasn't that great (besides the fact that my time is limited). I used to always use coco milk and cream without additives but grew tired after so many years of it. But I won't claim my diet is 'perfect' by any standards. I eat some processed foods, I aim for mainly whole foods and balanced meals over the day and week, that's it.

Got in my weekly walk in the woods with friends. It was nice. Missed out on tennis tonight because of a family emergency.

I hope everything is ok wintermom (hugs)

I got in a great lifting workout, added weight to my renegade rows, increased reps on banded chin-ups, and increased ROM on inverted row from the box.

My friend could not make it to BUTI yoga but I went ahead and went it was different but good. It was challenging in parts and got my heart rate up. I had thought it would be more challenging from the cardio aspect but she more challenged strength and balance (try a binding one leg in a deep malasana and then pushing into standing on the other leg while keeping the bind! I stumbled on the first leg but nailed the second one). Lots of little funky subtle challenging moves. I think I'd like to hit it again if I can work it into the schedule.

I'm currently at 457 active minutes this week with 2 days to go (although to be fair tomorrow won't have a ton of activity- generally I just have light yoga in the am which probably not count any minutes or very few). I did tell my friend I'd do Buti Yoga with her if it works for her schedule but if it doesn't I'll stay home.

I had some extra protein when I came in tonight and had almond milk ice cream for dessert (I was short some carbs for today felt like good timing to do it after such a heavy activity day).

Fingers crossed I can sleep tonight...

Things are ok now, thank goodness. Crisis over.

Hope you sleep well!
