He is withdrawing (AS kid)

Recommended Posts

He says he needs at least a quarter off.  The truth is, with the way the senior project works, he will have to take about a year off.  But we are leaving it be for now.

I am sad, but today this is the least of my stressors.

Sigh.

Saw in your other thread he's between counselors. That sounds like something to resolve. That way he can have some support as he takes his next steps. It's highly probable, given his interests were technical, that he can get a job and move forward, with or without this degree. The timing, the whether, that's not the end of the world at this point. But getting him some support so he can navigate job expectations, interviewing, working for employers, etc., that would be really important.

My dd flubbed an interview for something she really wanted a few years ago, and it took her some time (and a class on doing interviews, haha) to realize what she had done. It's just so easy, even when you have the skill, to flub it on the social level. He clearly has the brains and probably enough technical, so it's just the social skills support that will be the question.

Sorry it's piling on top of everything else. You need a cruise after this.

I don't know, we've had multiple people change out with maternity leave. They think they know how they'll feel and then they come back and change things. And 6-8 weeks can be a long time if he needs help now to navigate.

Not really sure he needs help right now.  He has made the decision.  Going to therapy won't change that for now.

I am trying to withdraw him as the payment was due by midnight yesterday.  I am having a hard time clicking the buttons.  A very hard time.  I can't do  it.

Remember this isn't necessarily for all time, just for now. (((Dawn)))

It is really too bad.  I think autism can be really tough with things like this, where all the potential is there but there are still things that keep it from happening.

Dawn,  just plain old hugs.  I really wish I could do something to make today easier.   You are in my thoughts and prayers.  Way too much stress has come your way in the last few days.💐🙏

I keep telling myself that the college will still be there next year if he wants to go back.

My oldest withdrew her first quarter of college. She was there on full tuition scholarship. It’s been totally okay. She took a break and then returned to a local school and finished her AA and is now transferring to university. Like you said, it isn’t necessarily for forever.

I am not brave, just resigned.   Sigh.  It is painful.
