homeschoolally
Hello, In terms of being prepared for high school English and ACT/SAT, how important is the distinction between nominative and objective pronouns? It is confusing my 7th grader and after being unable to find supplemental teaching material to practice or explain it I am wondering if it is truly necessary. thanks for your input! 8filltheheart
Very. Nominative case means they are being used as subjects and objective means they are being used as objects. Jane and me both got to go. Wrong. Me is an objective case pronoun and this sentence requires a nominative case (subject) I. She explains it better than me. Wrong. (Though the norm in speech now is to speak this way.). She explains it better than I (explain it). Dad bought tickets for Bill, Jane, and I. Wrong. For is a preposition and requires the objective case me. 3
freesia
I agree with 8. But do you mean knowing how to label them as such or knowing how to use them properly? Your dc won’t need to label them correctly on the test, but will need to know which type of pronouns goes in which part of the sentence ( identifying incorrect usage and choosing a sentence which uses pronouns correctly.) For most people that is easier to do if you can classify them by function. 1
