ScoutTN
I would like an actual alarm clock rather than my phone. Trying to find one that is a face clock with a not-shrill, not-horrible sound for the alarm. Any suggestions?
MercyA
Maybe this one? ETA: See videos to hear the various alarms. Edited September 18, 2019 by MercyA

I want it just for the music options: Japanese pop song and Chinese folk music? Plus Kenny G and French music; cannon or birdsong. What a variety! That would just make me smile and laugh every morning. 😉
Guest
I’m going to go with iPad. Sorry; I know you said you want an actual clock. But, about a year ago, I forced dh to abandoned our old, horrible, disturbing alarm clock and instead I set my iPad up with bedtime parameters and chose the most lovely, gentle, progressively increasing “water droplets” kind of chime. I absolutely love it beyond imagining. I do not think we are meant to begin our day being blared at with a discordant racket. PS, I should mention that dh still insists on having the clock sitting there; he still wants to be able to determine the time at a glance. I have just turned the alarms OFF and only use the bedtime iPad gentle alarm, which is just indescribably nice.
Kalmia
We have Peakeep alarm clocks which we don't use as alarm clocks, but they have lasted longer than some of the other brands we have tried. This one has seven alarm sounds. https://www.amazon.com/Peakeep-Non-Ticking-Optional-Nightlight-Operated/dp/B071RVB7NK/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=peakeep+alarm+clock&qid=1568807398&s=gateway&sr=8-2
mom2scouts
I love my sunlight clock. It slowly lights up the room and then at the alarm time it has pleasant sounds to wake you up like ocean waves or bird sounds. It works for me and I wake up slowly without a loud, obnoxious sound that puts me in a bad mood.
Bambam
They used to have alarm clocks that allowed you to wake to the horrible alarm sound or to music (radio station or CD, I think). Maybe they still have those?
TABmom
I'd look into a sunlight alarm. It gets gradually lighter before your alarm time. Mine has farm animals as the alarm sound. (I've never thought to see if it has other choices) but I am usually awake a few minutes before the alarm sounds.
TABmom
https://www.amazon.com/Sunrise-Nature-Digital-Control-Function/dp/B07PVMS19S/ref=sr_1_14?crid=2QZ74QUO7TLK5&keywords=daylight+alarm+clock&qid=1568860083&sprefix=Dayli%2Caps%2C339&sr=8-14 This is pretty similar to what I have. It shows the time in the middle and the light around the edge.
iamonlyone
The sunlight alarms are cool! I hadn't seen those.

My roommate had a big radio/stereo thing, like most people did back in the early-mid 90s, and you could set the alarm to play whatever CD you had in it. We woke up every morning to the gentle strains of the Princess Bride theme song, which was such a nice way to wake up! The only thing was we had to make sure we actually we up and out of bed by the time that really annoying village dancing song came on, lol.
