MamaSprout
Is anyone aware of a resource that teaches this at the precalculus level? It's an area she was weak in on the ACT (science) and something she will need for the SAT subject test. Besides, she's a science-y kid and I think it would be useful for her for biology next year. She usually doesn't need direct instruction on secondary skills like this, but I think it would be helpful in this case. ETA: I have a resource for statistics. It's the web- appendix section from a Larson Precalculus: http://college.cengage.com/mathematics/larson/precalculus_acc/1e/resources/ab.html I assume "data analysis" is something more than statistics? EKS
I would use ACT prep materials and specifically teach her how to take the science section. You do not need precalculus level "data analysis" ability to ace that section. More like Algebra I. If that. It's just interpreting data that is presented in tables and graphs. The main things to understand about the ACT science section are that you should *never* use your own knowledge about science to answer the questions and that *everything* you need to answer the questions is in the stuff they give you. So the prep would consist of looking at specifically why each answer choice is either correct or incorrect. I don't know anything about the SAT subject tests though.
