Scarlett
I want big drawers. Love that about my mom’s new kitchen. White painted. Shaker style.
Scarlett
So anyone want to tell me the hits and fails in their kitchen cabinets?
Tanaqui
Hurrah! I wish that was in our budget right now, I hate our cabinets. And our light fixture. And our stove. Sigh.
Bambam
We have two slide out drawers on either side of our stove top - these are headish high - even with the bottom of our upper cabinets and the same height. These are for spices. Excellent placement and so useful. I wish they were wider so I could have all my spices in there, but they are a little narrow. We have space for a slide out trashcan. I like it and I don't. It is nice to have it out of sight, but when your hands are nasty, I have to stand on one leg to pull it out to toss anything in. Corner cabinet has a pull down (rolling) door which is very handy - I have a toaster, blender, instant pot, hand mixer, food chopper and various tall bottles in there (Olive Oil. Vegetable oil, one vinegar, syrup - that sort of stuff). Many of the houses we looked at last time had pull out and up custom shelving/drawer for your stand mixer. I thought that was neat, but I'm not sure if it would prove that useful for me.

We have a tall stainless steel one at the end of our counter...opens by motion. And a small one under the sink. I would like it to be inside a cabinet but not sure it would be that great for actual ease of use.
Scarlett
So he came and spent nearly two hours. Dh was there, thankfully because they talked A LOT about the construction detail and very specific sizes of every thing.. I have a U-shaped kitchen and starting at the left corner I will have a cookie sheet small door, then my slide in double oven range, then a spice rack drawer, then a bank of two big drawers, then a corner with a special swing out kinda door, I forget the name of it. Then rounding the corner a 2 foot base, then my sink (36 inch), then the dishwasher, something, something, then a corner. as you round the corner on the last wall will be another bank of drawers matching the ones across the kitchen from it. Then the refrigerator which is a counter depth monster, and finally at the end of the refrigerator/next to the end wall I will have two drawers for canned goods. As for uppers---none on the range wall. Big three foot window above the sink with some uppers on each side. And then above the last bank of big drawers there will be a microwave cubby. He will use maple which pleases me. And it will be white shaker. I think we have decided on black granite and a black single basin sink. Dh wants farmhouse, but I don't really and they are like twice as high as the non farm house. He should get the estimate to us next week sometime. Friend had it in her house, she said never again. It shows everything. I would think the same for the sink. Happy construction! What does it show that you wouldn't want to wipe off? I had white laminate in two of my houses where i spent a total of 20 years. I hated that white with all my being. It stained so easily. Coffee, wine, just anything would require a big cleaning effort. So I am looking forward to something that doesn't stain. In one of the houses where I had white laminate I eventually got an almost black laminate which I really really loved. That kitchen was white cabinets too. I would actually be happy with that in this remodel but dh really wants the granite and we do have a friend who works for a granite company so we can probably get a good deal. Bambam
I had a black speckled granite - grays and silvery things running through it. It hid dirt well. You really couldn't tell the difference between freshly wiped off and been-using-it-and-not-yet-wiped off - unless you spilled flour on it! I now have a lighter mottled tan/brown mixture granite - even when it is clean and the light hits it just right, you can still see any small spot that was missed. I would avoid any solid colors.

She is a type A cleaner so that wasn’t the issue. Any dust, water marks, crumbs showed. In our kitchen remodel, we went with a speckled brown silestone with greys, tans and browns. It does a good job of hiding stuff😊
Scarlett
Anyone have a copper sink. I just saw one on Lowe’s sight and I am in love with it.
Storygirl
Ooh, I hate speckled counters that hide crumbs. Because I can wipe the counter clean and then find that it is not really clean. Hate hate hate that. So I guess that is a matter of opinion. I have am a fan of having one big, wide sink instead of a divided sink, but it doesn't have to be farmhouse style. In my last house, we had a large single bowl sink that was a stainless steel undermount, and I puffy heart loved it. When washing dishes, I could get my largest pots and pans right down in there; whereas with my divided sink, the smaller bowl is sometimes a problem for my large pans. I think a copper sink would be pretty, but I don't know how well they clean out or how they last. Will it change to a green color over time, as copper sometimes does? Storygirl
I need new cabinets in my kitchen, but I have never done a kitchen remodel before, and I'm nervous and don't know where to begin. I know what I would like, but I don't know how to pick a contractor, other than to look at reviews online and have meetings with people. And I'm really nervous about the project itself. But if we live in this house for ten plus years (our estimate), the kitchen cabinets will be really poor by then. I'd rather put in something nice for ourselves than wait and update it just for the benefit of the next owners.

I need to do some research but I would be fine with it getting darker like copper does. I found some Pinterest pics of copper sinks and white cabinets....the black counter looks pretty good with it but a more pattered brown and black granite combo looks even better. I love this sink....but I don’t want to be too trendy...then again it is just a sink...lol if someone hates it they can change it out.

Dh will be the contractor, the only thing we are hiring is the cabinets built and installed. We will also need Total demo a new window countertops backsplash some plumbing work new dishwasher and slide in stove put in dh is easily capable of all of that but he works a full time job in the city....but he is game.
Storygirl
I love that sink, too!! I'm not sure I would be adventurous enough to pick it for my kitchen, but it's very pretty.
