ktgrok
Is this a wheat berry germinating in my lawn, from where I put straw down on my new grass seed? Seems way too big to be the grass seed itself (bermuda seed is TINY). The little orange bits you see in the dirt are the bermuda seeds. Arctic Bunny
I would vote more oat-like.... but I’m only surrounded by farms, not intimate with them, lol!
ktgrok
it could be oat straw, I actually don't know, lol. Out of caution I told my celiac kid to stay far away from it, and I'm keeping it wet to avoid dust blowing around, just assuming it was wheat straw. Selkie
I vote wheat. Oats are longer and skinnier than that.

ktgrok
Can I admit that I got REALLy excited when I saw some green stuff, and then realized that seed was about 20 times larger than my gras seed, lol.
Melissa in Australia
I am finding it hard to judge the size form the photo - definitely a grain I am thinking oats but it could be wheat. I have grown both in my veggie garden as a green manure crop
Terabith
I clicked on this thread expecting it to be about Settlers of Catan.
mumto2
I thought you were writing a book with a wheat farmer!😉 Btw, I grew up on a fruit farm where wheat was a resting crop. Sure looks like wheat to me. Edited June 19, 2019 by mumto2
