Not being familiar with the city, I don’t even know where to start. This is for 8 people who want to spend 3-5 nights exploring major attractions in Chicago. Harriet Vane Posted June 7, 2019 Share Posted June 7, 2019 My personal favorite is Oak Park, a near suburb right on the green line el with lots of city vibe. So fun to go downtown, and fun to hang out in Oak Park as well. It's quite close to downtown and super simple to navigate. Other nice towns along the Metra train line are Wheaton, Glen Ellyn, Winfield, Mount Prospect, Arlington Heights. Those are mostly bland suburbs, though Wheaton is a pretty college town with a decent downtown area. It’s in a clean, safe part of the city and close to a lot of the major attractions and public transit.
