Lanny
This is something one should not do, in case the caller is a scammer, but also to protect from other types of crime. Awhile ago, I answered the landline phone. It was a guard at the entrance gate to our rural subdivision. I didn't understand him. DD came and she didn't understand him either. She asked me to get my wife, which I did. My wife interrogated him and they eventually discovered the person was going to another house...
ashfern
I never do. When they ask for me by name I say "speaking" not yes.
lanabug
I learned that as basic phone etiquette as a child. When someone says, "Mrs. ___?" when I answer the phone, I always say, "This is she." (And if they say my name incorrectly, I always say, "There's no one here by that name." Saves me the trouble of listening to their spiel!)
gardenmom5
I admit, I've gotten to where I say "are you a real person or a robot?" even robots might say "I didn't understand the question". I hang up.
