wehave8
How many miles / do you put on you family vehicle. We already put 4,000 miles on our new (used) Durango in just 3 months! Pam
Carrie12345
We do about 1,100/month. Summers tend to be a lot less, but there are some times during the school year when activities overlap and can push us real high! ETA: I live near nothing, lol. HomeAgain
About 400/mo. I live in a place where it takes forever to go anywhere, but on a map it's all pretty close. It just takes a long time to get there so I'm always in the car. LOL
desertflower
We did 20,000 last year. More in previous years. I like to explore the area. Go to beaches, go to museums.....
gardenmom5
it's varied by year - I don't drive that many miles locally anymore, so my 19yo van has 165K miles. - but we do foresee a 2000 mile trip this year.
sweet2ndchance
A lot. I don't even try to keep track anymore. It's 10 miles round trip to town and back. The only thing in town is a small Walmart, a feed store and a Dollar Tree. Oh and a McD's that doesn't even have a playground. There are some other non-chain, mom-n-pop type restaurants but that's about it. It's at least 150 miles round trip to anywhere with a Target, Home Depot, Lowes, Chick-Fil-A, etc. The closest library with a sizeable collection and the ability to pay for a non-resident library card is about 175 miles round trip once a month. Dh's medical condition requires us to travel frequently to the university hospital in the capitol city of our state. That is at least 300 miles round trip sometimes several times a month when he is having multiple procedures done. It is 70 miles round trip to our regular family doctor. That's also where the closest ER worth going to is if you aren't going to die before you get there. (There is a small ER in town but anything more than supergluing a cut together and you will be ambulanced or air evac out somewhere else.) We got a "new to us" car made available for our use whenever we need it last summer. We have put over 60,000 miles on in the last 9 months or so between us and dh's grandmother who owns it. I guess that's over 6,000 miles a month on average. Part of the price you pay living in the middle of nowhere I guess.
historically accurate
I drive about about 500-600 miles per week; I fill up the car 2x-3x per week, once I get about 200 miles on it. My dd's DE community college is 24 miles from home. I drop off and pick up 4x per week. That adds up to 384 miles a week just getting her to and from school. Any evening activities are usually another 48 miles (she usually has one every other week or so). We have a minimum of 3 Dr. appts a week, which range from 7-25 miles away. So about 75-100 miles per week there. One kid's 1x per week extra curricular is 30 miles away (although I combine picking up DD at school with it). Then, add in youth group (19 miles away), robotics (18 miles away), library trips (10 miles away) and any other errands, I am always in the car! We live on the south side of a suburb, and DD's school is on the north side of the city, and all of the activities except one (Tae Kwon Do - less than 2 miles away!) are in the city. TheReader
well, I gas up roughly once/week-ish, and I get roughly 350 miles per tank of gas, so.....1400 miles/month? Ish? Sometimes more, sometimes less. That's not counting weeks when we do any kind of "go see the in-laws" or anything on the weekend, just normal at home, kid errands, church on Sunday weeks. If we go see inlaws, add another 150 miles that week. DH runs more than that on his car, because he has to visit clients and things for work, but he does at least get reimbursed for miles. I try to consolidate errands as much as possible in mine, just to keep it where it is. Means a lot of hanging around waiting on things rather than making an extra round trip, but as that saves 160 miles/month right there.....worth it. (a timely reminder for me, as I'm at the last 20 minutes of the last day of waiting on DS at his CC class/final for the year.....).
forty-two
2500-3000mi/month for dh and me combined. Dh's work commute is 180mi/wk, church is 60mi/wk (2 round trips), and kid activities are 270mi/wk, so a little over 500mi/wk of regularly scheduled activities. Then dh has fluctuating additional work-related driving, and we go into town once a month (~140mi), plus other one-off trips, so I'm guesstimating 2500-3000mi/mo. We live rurally, so it's a long way to everywhere.
prairiewindmomma
We used to put on 3,000-4,000/month, easily. We relocated and rarely top 300.
DawnM
I put about 1500 on my car each month, sometimes more. I drive 23 miles each way to work every day. DH's work is 20 miles but he only goes in 2-3 times per week. Summer trips Back and forth to visit college kids and take them back, etc.... We put about 20k per year on our cars, so more than 4k every 3 months.
Meriwether
We put 25,000 on each year.
Melissa in Australia
I don't keep track but it would be heaps. it is 20 km just to go to the local small town. just under 100 km each way to go to the twins swimming lessons each week. - plus the 100 or so km each way to specialists etc every few weeks. I sometimes feel that I spend half of every month traveling. I take public transport for the medical appointments to Melbourne ( 400 km away) last year we went there 14 times just for twin
BakersDozen
I think we average 1000/month although that seems high to me. My dh rides his bike to work so that is a big factor. I try to have at least 3 no-drive days each week. We moved to where most of our activities are within 3-4 miles of our house which is so nice in so many ways, vehicle mileage being one. wehave8
Thanks for the replies! Looks like our average is not as high as I thought, compared to many of you. Sharing info with husband.... 😉
MeaganS
We average around 30k a year, so I guess that equals around 2500 a month? Our 2006 minivan is at 270k miles right now. We do a ton of road trips several times a year, so it's not surprising. That's just me. I actually have no idea about dh's car, but it's less. His does about 15 miles round trip 14 times a week plus random other little errands and the occasional 4 hour round trip to the airport. 4everHis
I have averaged 2,000 a month in the 14 months since we bought our new van in Feb 2018.
