We have had a terrible virus going through our family and I'm just hoping ds can stay well until after his exam on Wed.

Good luck to everyone!

Hugs! I hope he stays healthy.

My 7th grader is taking his first AP exam (AP Comp Sci Principles) at a school he has never been to before... and his dad had to drop him off because I got bitten by a snake last night and spent half the night in the ER! And of course the whole time I was thinking (after they decided not to use antivenin) that this was the worst weekend to happen.  Not just the exam, but my son is also in 2 shows and I am volunteering for both of them! Argh.

BUT I was very lucky, it was most likely a copperhead but it was either a dry bite or only a little venom so the swelling did not spread far. And it was completely and utterly my fault for walking at dusk on a trail next to a stream after a hard rain.  What on earth was I thinking?

I hope my son is not nervous and is doing well! He'll be done in an hour! We have chocolate pie to celebrate the exam and the show.

Oh no, San Diego Mom!  I hope you are ok.  My 8th grader is taking CSP right now too and was a nervous wreck.  We showed up at the school and the receptionist was sort of rude with "what do you mean you don't know where the multipurpose room is?!" (um, I don't have any children at this huge 3000+ student high school, why in the world would we know where the multipurpose room is?).  I love your chocolate pie idea for after the exam.  Off to go buy one!

We picked ds13 up after the exam and he was glowing! No anxiety about being the youngest (he mentioned it, but wasn't totally worried), and he says he felt really good about it.  Which is lucky because we waited a little too long to start studying and then the study book we used just made him more nervous. It wasn't written very well and had some errors, but at least he did realize he was a little rusty in some areas.  He said the actual exam was much clearer and he feels confident.  So yay!

I have to show this thread to my dd who will be taking her first AP exam (APUSH). Around here home schoolers don't test - and I mean not at home, not standardized testing, nothing. "Test" is a 4-letter word in these parts and there are those who are appalled that I would have my child to go through the testing experience. The AP isn't even people's radar...few even know what AP stands for. So it's nice to see other home school students heading into these exams!

My son must have used the same book!  He was practically in tears after taking the practice exam associated with the book.  He was complaining of errors, spelling mistakes, etc. My son thought he was very well prepared for the exam (thank you PA Homeschoolers) and felt very good coming out of it (although they ran very late and didn't get out until almost 4 pm...)

I think we used 5 steps to a 5? Not sure, it went in the recycling bin after the test! He was pretty frustrated practicing- one problem asked to pick the program that would run correctly and none of them would! Even I could see it, and I don’t know much at all about programming. Oh well, thankfully it still went well!

Well, so glad to hear some positive experiences.  DD has been massively stressing about her exams, especially Physics tomorrow.  She has both Physics Exams on Monday, Calc BC on Tuesday and AP Eng. Lang on Weds.  We are definitely hitting the pool Tues/Weds afterwards! Thursday, is a day off.  No wake up times -- and just a 3 hour swim session.  That's more or less my plan for finishing up here.  All the school books are packed to mail.  The house is ready to pack out and get it's final cleaning (whenever that happens).  I'm so ready to hop on a plane and start the next chapter!

So ready for APs to be over... Studying & prepping like crazy (my ds, not me - LOL!) But I'm exhausted just watching him! So ready for APs to be done - have AP Calc AB Tues, AP Eng Lang Wed and AP Stats Thurs... then late AP Comp Govt next Friday... ready for the end of the school year!

We've arrived in the Netherlands where dd will be testing. She is doing Calc AB tomorrow and English Lang on Wednesday. We are both ready to be done. I will consider her a high school grad when she comes out of the last test.

Last one tomorrow - AP Art History. Last week she did Environmental Science and Lit and she felt that they went very well. Art History is the only she self-studied for, and she's not feeling particularly well prepared for it. I hope that it's easier than she's expecting.

I'll be so glad when she's done with it! She's been working hard to be done with ALL of her classes tomorrow once her AP test is done - so far 4 down and 2 to go! And then High School is complete 🙂

AP Physics C is done.  DD isn't happy.  Apparently, most of the questions came from the harmonics and springs area, which was the one area she didn't feel solid about.  😞  Today is Calc BC -- she's extremely solid on the AB topics, more nervous about the BC.  We're shopping afterwards.  It's hard to believe that in one year, she'll be graduating (because after her last AP test is done, I will consider her DONE.  I'm still not sure if Pokeman will do many APs.  I guess I'll know in a year!

The strangest thing happened today. Dropped my ds off at local high school to take the AP Art History exam. He was the only one taking it so they escorted him to a counselor's office where the counselor would proctor the exam. I arranged to pick him up after the exam. The exam starts at 12:00 and was supposed to last 3 hours. I arrive at 3:00, 3:30 passes, 4:00 rolls around and now I'm really confused - where is he? Stop in high school office to inquire and they confirm he is still taking the exam. Finally about 4:20 my son comes out. Apparently, the counselor reading from the instructions said homeschoolers get an extra hour and a half.  My son told the counselor he really thought it was only 3 hours but she insisted it was 4 1/2 hours. What???  I really hope his score doesn't get cancelled for this. Earlier in the week, I had gotten an urgent call from the school regarding my request for a scribe for ds' broken hand. Scribe??  I informed them at the time that this was a mixup - he did not need any accommodations and he did not have a broken hand. Wondering if they somehow got confused again and gave him an extra time accommodation instead. Anyway, exam seemed to go okay - he was just left twiddling his thumbs during the extra time. Finally, convinced the counselor to release him from the FRQs before the time was up. This will go down as the longest AP yet.  One more to go tomorrow, AP Macro, hopefully they will keep it to the scheduled two hours.

DD is a bit nervous for her AP English Language today... you know she's trying to keep things light as she makes jokes about bombing the calculator portion of the exam 😉  Next year, we will really be increasing the focus on her humanities subjects.  I'm so excited!!

One hour left in the English Lang test here in the Central European time zone. My dd also made jokes about not needing her calculator today. I think she felt weird leaving it behind. We have flowers ready for our new graduate. This has been a long three and a half hours for me.

DS14 was a grouchy teen as pollen is high and he didn’t sleep well for the past few days 😛 He brought his calculator in for Macroeconomics which doesn’t allow a calculator and he isn’t the only one. The proctor would take it anyway together with the cellphones after kids are seated and before booklets are given out. DS13 has a small room HEPA air purifier picked out at Target because he has hay fever as well. Now waiting for my husband to be done shopping so we can go back to Target on the way to the car.

ETA:

air purifier bought

DS14 enjoyed the Starbucks grilled cheese sandwich I got him 🙂

Exams done here yesterday! FINALLY! What a grueling few weeks. Took the late AP Comp Govt exam - up 1-1/2 hrs away. (Thanks Arcadia for helping us find a center! Except for the long drive and day for my DH, my ds liked it a lot - though I told him he needs to drive himself there next time -- but he only got his license 2 weeks ago so 1 1/2 hr drive away seemed daunting... LOL)

DONE! DONE! DONE!! WOOOO-HOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

The location is in a nice area with plenty of supermarkets and eateries. If your husband drove via Highway 17, that’s the highway we get carsick often.
