housemouse
So, ds submitted application for a summer apprenticeship job with local company earlier this week with references and all. Can he inquire with the company on his application (to see if he is still being considered and to make sure application did not get lost in the shuffle somewhere) or not? And if he can, how long to wait before checking? Thank you
HomeAgain
Yes. Definitely. When ds got a job here he submitted an application online, and then two days later he went in and asked for a manager, telling her he just wanted to let her put a face with a name, thanking her for the opportunity. They ended up chatting for a bit and she hired him very soon after.
Arcadia
Usually people would call my husband’s department after three days to see if their application is in process if it is a paper form. If it is online it is just in the queue and the person can only see if it’s in the system (since status isn’t updated as fast online). It can take a week or more to know if your son is in the shortlisted for interview pile. Calling at the 3 day and one week mark is fine. Your son can ask for tentative deadlines for when they would let him know the application status. Someone called on the 3rd, 4th and 5th day telling whoever pick up the phone to expedite her job application, that does cross into being pushy. If it’s a small local company, walk in and ask. Dress smart casual as if going for an interview. High chance if a manager is free, the person would do a quick interview.
