happypamama
I'm looking for a few things I can throw under a general heading like "STEAM" for about 3rd-6th grades. Not just educational games or learning apps like DuoLingo but some things that promote some doing and creativity, to introduce them to some new things. I want to tell them to pick one or two to work on every day, fairly independently. Could be sites or apps. Free or inexpensive is good. So far, I have: Stop Motion movie app Hour of Code Scratch programming Synthesia (We do have the keyboard for this.) RockSmith (We have the guitars for this.) StoryBird (I haven't looked at this much.) SketchUp I'd love some other suggestions. Drawing or other art, maybe. They like technology; I'd like to capitalize on that. SanDiegoMom
There's also a good number of Instant challenges available through Destination Imagination -- I always thought about trying to have some ready on hand for a rainy or summer day. They are compiled it seems in multiple places -- for instance on this page: http://www.createme.org/index.php/instant-challenge-practice-sets-2/
SanDiegoMom
My son really enjoyed Codemonkey as well. And my twins LOVED toontastic on the Ipad -- animated story maker. It can be pricey though -- they have the free version and a $20 version I think. Not sure if I am remembering right.
kznelius
Have you seem the DIY app? Lots and lots of neat ideas for kids in all different STEAM related categories. They complete challenges, upload their projects, and get badges. There is also a social component to it, which could be a positive or negative, depending on your perspective: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/diy-app-creative-community-for-kids/id519308960?mt=
