Harriet Vane
I am cooking for a retreat in a week. I would like to make a whole grain, French toast casserole. Any tried and true, totally amazing recipes?
PeterPan
Well I did one once that was stuffed with cream cheese, but that was so over the top it was almost inedible, lol. My dd would say the key is the bread, beautiful thick brioche. The cruise we went on made their french toast an inch thick like that too. Do you know if you want it stuffed or more delicate? PS. If you need to test recipes, send the pans my way. Edited March 22, 2019 by PeterPan

Zoo Keeper
My family likes this recipe... and I agree with OhE that the bread must be a good quality, nice thick bread. No wonder bread. I use my homemade bread. A little bit of cream cheese icing drizzled on top is pretty tasty. My kids just want powdered sugar instead. Uncultured swine. 😉
umsami
Pioneer Woman's recipe is good. I enjoyed it. Made it for Christmas at my Mom's house a few years ago. Sadlly, I somehow gave birth to three kids who don't like French toast. (Thankfully, one does.) Not sure what I ate during pregnancy to cause that to happen as I love it! 🙂
Farrar
I like the Pioneer Woman's. No reason you couldn't use whole grain bread. And I have been known to sub the cream for milk and it's been fine if you want to cut the fat.
