chiguirre
https://www.yahoo.com/gma/actresses-ceos-arrested-nationwide-college-admissions-cheating-scam-142252158--abc-news-topstories.html This is completely bonkers. People bribed college admissions personnel and coaches to get their kids into Ivies and other elite schools.
JoJosMom
I cannot say that I'm surprised. Cheating seems to be widespread, and the kids are learning it somewhere. I just hope that people are actually punished and that it has an impact on the process.
teachermom2834
My kids don’t apply to elite schools but one of my close friends has kids who do. I always remind her that a 10% admit rate is even lower if you take the admit rate of the pool of kids who are not athletes, not connected politically, and not cheating. Craziness but totally believable.
cuckoomamma
My dad fis apply to selective schools this year to see if she was lucky. Hadn’t thought if the statistics in terms of cheating and bribing. It’s also disheartening to know that these would be your peers if you were accepted. Corraleno
Wow, the details of this case are crazy! Besides bribing test proctors to allow "ringers" to take the SAT & ACT in place of the student, it sounds like a lot of the admissions involved creating fake athletic profiles — including faking photos of students in the context of a sport they did not even play — and then bribing coaches (4 coaches at USC alone!) to falsely claim they were recruited athletes. Which means those coaches were using guaranteed admissions slots that should be have allocated to the best athletes they could recruit for the team, so they were screwing their own team members over, as well as the school, in return for large personal bribes. WTH is wrong with people??? 🤬 5
workingmom
Very disheartening, but not surprising. My DS applied last year to 2 Ivies and we knew the chances were low bc no alumni/legacy and he was a younger student. But its so infuriating knowing now even fewer seats actually available that the dozen or so we thought. I feel not only the parents, but the school allowing this scam should be punished. What ever happened to merit based acceptance?
