What do you have hanging above your bed?

Recommended Posts

Pinterest is no help unless a person is looking for a farmhouse style quote framed in reclaimed wood. No offense if that's what hangs above your bed, but we are neither farmhouse nor words on walls people.

So I turn to you, Hive. Bonus points for pictures.

You mean on the wall above the headboard, right?  (Other than a light, I don’t have anything hanging right above my bed. ). On the wall I have two pictures that I had enlarged and framed. A picture of dh as a baby/toddler and one of me.

Hanging above bed?  Nothing.  People hang things above their beds?  Other than mirrors for people into that this is news to me!

Nothing. Our bed is tall and the headboard is pretty high, and it doesn't seem to me the space above it needs anything. But I could change my mind on that.

On the wall over the headboard (which is actually a pantry door turned on its side, fastened to the wall), I have four of the IKEA Malma mirrors.  Kind of like the second picture, except in a single horizontal row.

Yes, the wall above the headboard.

Ooh, I’d love to see a picture of that!

Ah.  Bed head not against wall.  Big headboard. No wall decor usually.

If you look at headboards on Pinterest you will also see a lot of variety in what is shown above the headboard.  Different art prints, lattice type wood work, shelves with things displayed (not something I would do in earthquake country), combination bookshelves/headboards etc.

The space above my headboard is short. (Vaulted ceiling.) Nothing’s there now, but I’m in the market for some sort of scrolling wrought iron design with matching side sconces.

Nothing, just a blank wall. I like to keep our bedroom simple and haven't found anything that didn't feel too cluttery for my liking. Also, I don't want anything to fall and clonk me on the head while I'm sleeping.

Nothing at the moment.  We have an eagle picture that DH wants to put up, but I guess he doesn't want it enough to actually do it.  We moved in Sept and it still isn't up.  It is just leaning against the wall still in protective wrapping.

An oil painted canvas of a ship in an early storm. Lots of blues and grays, plus a bit of an orange sunset.

Sounds beautiful ❤️

One single cobweb about 3" long.  Every time I go to sleep and look up, I think "Dang, it's still there. I need to swiffer in the morning."  And then I go to bed the next night and so on.

A carved, circular wooden thing DH brought back from Indonesia (20+ years ago). We joke that it's probably a fertility symbol so maybe we should hang it elsewhere.

I think it's actually a serving tray...

Nothing. I've always lived in earthquake territory, and things hanging above the bed freak me out.

nothing.  For me personally, if I wanted wall hangings in my bedroom above the headboard would be the last place for them because then I couldn't see  them well from my bed.  And I'm not into decorating for people who will never see my room.

I have a set of beautiful cross-stitch pieces that my aunt made for my mom years ago. They are country scenes, but elaborate in that the entire framed area is stitched. I don't care for the frames, as they are a gilded gold, and I tend more toward rustic, but they look very nice in our bedroom, and make me feel peaceful when I look at them. When my mom moved in with my sister year before last, they were up for grabs, so I took them! My aunt is now in her 90s.

A wreath, centered right in the middle. It’s light and pretty and matches my duvet, so I like it. Up until a year ago I never had anything because I’m super nervous about stuff falling on my head while I’m asleep. But I got tired of the blank wall and figured a lightweight wreath wouldn’t hurt too bad. 😂

About 20 various pictures that ds has drawn or painted over the last 8 or so years. These are mostly on plain copy paper and are taped to the wall with scotch tape. Ds has put them there as gifts to us. Ninja guys, Pokemon, superheroes, nature art, an illustrated list of foods he dislikes, a funny one "No Girls Aloud" with an unflattering drawing of dd.

Framed Andrew Wyeth print of a dog sleeping on a bed called, I believe, Master Bedroom.

I have cross-stitched pictures of dogs my mother made on other walls.  Pretty much a dog themed bedroom.

There are four maps: an antique (1810's, I think) map of ancient Rome, an 1890's map of India, an 1880's map of Asia, and a maps of Paris that fell out of one of my Baedeckers and felt it wanted to be put up there too.

I love old maps!

We have a small bronze Celtic cross, similar to this one:

(We don't have much room for anything else, because of the vaulted ceiling in that part of the room.)

Right over the huge headboard nothing, though I've been arguing with DH that I should be able to cut up an old botanical print book (it's old but only worth about $7 because it's so common) and hang my favorites on that wall. He doesn't think so.  I think I might order another copy to have solely to cut up.

The closest art we have to the bed is an original oil painting clearly inspired by this that we bought at an art festival.  Ours look more like NYC in the current day though. Sparser, stormier, the fewer people are more clearly defined.

I'm not a words on walls person, either.  However, I do have a framed Bible verse over my headboard.

I don't like Pinterest so I didn't look there, and as far as I remember, this is the first time I have ever hung anything over the bed.

None because we are near the earthquake zone. My cousin who isn’t in an earthquake zone has recessed bed lights installed and that’s nice for reading in bed. Something like this link minimalist-lighting-for-the-bedroom.jpg

A trio of Ikea Gassa etched glass art, hanging in a horizontal row. You can switch out the color panels behind them to be red or blue, but I just leave them out so it's more of a white on gray look.

Anchors for the ropes. We're considering adding one of those trapeze things.

No live dogs allowed in the bedroom but the two of them have a nice area just outside the bedroom.  My sisters sleep with their dogs and I never understood how they get any sleep at all.  My husky and German Shepherd dogs take up way too much room.

The print was my mother's and it reminds me of her.  I am not surprised so many have it--my neighbor had one, too!  I have several small dog statues on a bedside table, but the dog theme does not extend to the rest of the house.  I mean, I'm not the crazy dog lady or anything......

We don't have anything over the headboard.

I do have this little hanging quilt on DH's side wall that his mother made for me, and a caricature of the kids on my side wall.

Nothing.  Earthquake zone.

But, even if we didn't live in an earthquake zone, I wouldn't have anything there. We stayed in an Air BnB in London with a painting over the bed, and it fell down on us in the middle of the night with no apparent provocation.

I asked my dd to paint three canvases in a "winter woods" theme.. it's so hot here most of the year, I wanted something that conveyed cool serenity 😉 .... when I look at it I can almost hear the crunching footsteps in snow, and that sort of muffled quiet.. and the bracing smell of snow at night, the cutting cold breeze... I haven't actually seen snow in many years, so this is a nice reminder...
