HOD Res to Ref

Hi,

Has anyone here used Heart of Dakota Resurrection to reformation? This would be for a 6th grade girl. I’m contemplating this and another, more CM curriculum. How much busywork do you feel like this package has vs skill building and assignments that will really help the student grow and what they truly need. In some ways I feel the need to step it up a bit for 6th grade but I don’t want to do that with a lot of busywork.

Thanks!

It depends on your definition of  busywork.  Some of the history projects definitely feel like busy work to us and we almost always skip them unless I can their educational value.

I've gone through that guide three times and I've changed it in different ways for each child.  For instance, last year my now 12yods was between 6th and 7th grade so we changed out the science for Apologia General.  It was a good choice for him but the previous kid had done the science as written

We don't usually do storytime as scheduled because my kids just read the books.  We also don't use DITHOR, because I determined it was busy work years ago though my children do read the books scheduled for DITHOR.

My best advice with any HOD guide is use what works for you and your student in a way that makes sense for you.  We change out language arts quite often, use a different math or substitute books, but that's just me.  It's a great program as written and often after we skip something I get a "aha" moment later when I realize why Carrie had scheduled something the way she did.
