AEC
A rather unexpected opportunity has arisen, and we might be relocating to Connecticut. Hslda suggests the hs laws are pretty lax. Don’t even have to submit a curriculum? DS will be a SR next year and DD a sophomore, so we’re in the middle of high school. What should we know about homeschooling in CT? Culture shock coming from Northern California? They’re both theatre and swimming kids. There’s lots of theatre around...but is it super cut-throat at the kid/community level? How’s the social acceptance of hs’ing?
Lori D.
Can't answer any of your questions -- only can add more questions to your list, lol. Since your DC would be 10th & 12th grades and virtually out the door of homeschooling, I'd also look heavily into the colleges in Connecticut, and if any will be a good match for your students. In-state tuition is much less than out-of-state, and while scholarships can really bring down the tuition, attending the university in your town while living at home is still often the most financially manageable option for families. Also, do the colleges in Connecticut require extra hoop-jumping from homeschoolers? (Things like SAT Subject tests, submission of a portfolio, or other special paperwork.) I'd also look into dual enrollment possibilities, and how transfer-able credits from Connecticut community colleges are to Connecticut universities (as well as out-of-state universities). Good luck! Warmly, Lori D.
