I feel like I've read over the recommended sequence over and over again and still feel confused on what's best to do. Both of my kids think that they are are heading down a STEM path for college, so I want them to get as much math in as they can. Should we... Continue down the old path: 10th: Algebra II, 11th & 12th: Advanced Mathematics? Should we... Switch to 4th editions? 10th: Geometry 11th: Algebra II 12th: Advanced Mathematics (full text)? Or, change up completely to AOPS? 10th: Geometry 11th: Intermediate Algebra, 12th: Pre-Calculus Also, how important is it that they get Calculus before college? BusyMom5 Posted January 20, 2019 Share Posted January 20, 2019 My oldest is about to lesson 45 in the Advanced Mathematics book. If Saxon is working, I'd stick with it, using the Al2, then AM. I am using the Art Reed dvds for this last course, and he recommends breaking the book into 2 years, repeating some of the lessons. I don't think my DD will need to do that bc as of right now she's getting 100 on all the tests! This last book may take 3 semesters to finish, but not 2 full years. My DD will be ready for college math, DE, next year. I'd make my focus being ready for SAT ACT by Jr year, and not worry about when they do calculus. My DD2 will start Al1 as a freshman, ans if she's doing well, we will stick with the series as long as possible. If she's not, we will switch to something like MUS.
