CLE reading

I have the first grade reader "I Wonder" from CLE. We have used Phonics Pathways and ETC for phonics.

Are the workbooks valuable? Or is just reading through the stories enough? I keep hearing how people love CLE reading, so I am interested.

But we went through the 1st grade Pathway readers and I got the workbooks, but didn't like them at all. They just felt like busy work.

Ds is almost 7 and loves workbooks so I am drawn to it.

I personally think it will feel like busywork as well...but I personally love levels 3-8😁...and think it is well done.  I would just let him read aloud to you each day and then go into level 3...it is so well done...imho.

I personally see nothing wrong with busywork especially for the most important part of the curriculum...but if it is something that bothers you...the first 2 levels felt that way to me...and I didn't like the focus on pronunciation ...it was a lot.

Just got the workbooks. I am very impressed. It seems a lot of people say it is busy work at the 1st grade level. But looking through it, it seems to cover and reinforce a lot of stuff we are learning in phonics and grammar. I think we will like it a lot. It seems to flow much better than the Pathway workbooks.
