madteaparty
I hate reading plays. DS and I will see the play in French (it will be subtitled), but I want to read some version of it in English first. Anything?
Lori D.
Well, I personally would watch the Jose Ferrer 1950 movie version, rather than read, lol. Do you just need a detailed summary of the play? If so, check out the Sparknotes summaries of each act/scene. If you want a full version, I don't see any English version that is NOT written in play format (i.e., adapted as a novel in prose format), so I think it's just a matter of choosing the layout that most facilitates reading for you. Would it help reduce your dislike of reading plays if you got together with several family members/friends, divide up the parts, and have fun doing it all together one evening as a "reader's theater"? Serve wine and appetizers/snacks and make it a snazzy literary book club type of thing. (:D Enjoy your live performance -- that will be fantastic! Warmest regards, Lori D. Farrar
I'd also watch the movie. It's pretty good. Or I'd watch Roxanne. But I love Steve Martin.
