Nemom
Looking to add something fun and independent in January that requires little to no effort on my part. Does anyone know of any online one semester courses that do not cost a small fortune? I am open to any and all suggestions for dd16 (nothing heavy on math). She needs to explore some new things in the hope that maybe something will interest her. She likes animals, science, music, and history. But like I said, she needs to experience some new things. Thanks
merylvdm
Do you want graded? Self-paced? Photography, Photoshop, Music History / Appreciation, Intro to Theatre, Writing Clubs, Debate, Programming - so many options. I suggest that once you have a number of ideas that you are happy to pay for and you think will work, show your dd and let her select. I did that with my kids and they were a lot more enthusiastic if they chose something. We did things like Linguistics and Game Theory as well as some of those mentioned above. I created most of them myself but obviously, you don't want to do that.

I need a place to start and a variety of options because she has no idea what she is really interested in. I do know she would not enjoy anything math or computer tech related. I'm just looking for ideas that others have used and enjoyed.
Lori D.
While you're waiting for the great ideas others are sure to share, you might check out the pinned thread "High School Motherlode #2" at the top of this board. In post #5, under the sub-heading of "electives" and "DIY courses", you'll find some great ideas for interesting classes. Here are some of those threads: fine artsOptions for Fine Arts credit (looking for unconventional ideas, beyond art/music/drama) electivesCreative and memorable electivesDungeons and Dragons for credit? making your own coursesTell me things you do to give your high schooler a unique experienceOut-of-the-box high school courses"Outside the box" for high school?
