Chicken broth... Did I do this correctly?

I made chicken broth today. After I cooked it, I strained it. Then I put the broth in 2 pots..each one 1/3-1/2 full and put them on my front porch to cool. It's about 30 degrees outside. I covered the pots with a thin bread towel. I let the broth completely cool... About 2 1/2 hours, then combined the pots and put the pot in the fridge overnight. I plan to make soup tomorrow. 

Did I do all of that correctly?  Guess I am concerned about the cooling process. I usually cool it in small containers for freezing, but because I wasn't going to freeze it, I just put it in pots to cool. So I wasn't sure if I did it right.
