Please recommend Chemistry text and You Tube channel

Recommended Posts

The text DS and I are using is very streamlined and we need more depth. Will you recommend a chem text that has clear explanations for a novice chem student?

We are also looking for an awesome You Tube channel with chemistry videos to supplement our learning. Any recommendations? ?

Thanks.

I'll second World of Chem. I prefer the second edition over the first for layout reasons, but the text is the same. Some resources for it here: http://www.classzone.com/cz/books/woc_07/book_home.htm?state=CA

For calculation help, I like: http://www.gpb.org/chemistry-matters/closer-look

Bozeman has helpful videos for those who want lectures: http://www.bozemanscience.com/ap-chemistry/

For the love of all things geeky, there are the "Brady" channels. His chemistry one: http://www.periodicvideos.com/

(dd likes Numberphile, too): https://www.numberphile.com/

We used Zumdahls Chemistry, Great Courses Chemistry, http://www.periodicvideos.com (There is a YouTube Video for this and we all filled in our own Periodic Table of Elements as we watched the videos), a couple of living books, and a chemistry kit.

For what it is worth, my older daughter used this and LOVED chemistry.  It really sparked her interest.  My second daughter watched all the videos when my older daughter did.  However, when it was time for her to do Chemistry we used Apologia.   She does not have the same LOVE of Chemistry, but made an A in Chem I in college.

I was searching through my old files and found a line up of videos for Chemistry.  It is through the University of Marylanhttp://www.learner.org/resources/series61.html

I attached the video list I found..

Thank you for posting about this, it has given me a good revamp for my last two hs kiddos ages 15 and 13 🙂
