Collect data, learn what the behavior is communicating and why he can't communicate it better, and help him do better. SLPs (not all but in general) have this turf war going on with the behaviorists and scoff at the VB MAPP and behavioral stuff. That's not getting you answers that are autism-specific and it's not connecting you to what non-SLPs know about language and autism. You'll occasionally find SLP-BCBAs trying to bridge this gap.
