Woodland Mist Academy
Is there a current master thread for Common App questions? I have read through many old threads from previous years, but some of the information doesn't apply to the current Common App. Here are links to recent questions. Feel free to add any I've missed! Lori D.
Thanks Woodland Mist Academy! I'm in the process of re-vamping and updating the pinned threads at the top of the high school board, and hope to transfer all of the college topics into a big thread on the college board and request that it be pinned. So this saves a ton of effort, and I'll make sure that your thread is linked onto that thread! 1
RootAnn
Stupid question: The "review and submit" button -- You do get a chance to "cancel" back out of it if you don't like what you see, right? Is that the button that will show me how things look to the colleges? Because, so far, all I can see are little bits at a time. I haven't found any place that shows me how it looks put all together. I had another question, but I can't remember it now. I'm sure I'll be back with more before this is all done . . .
Woodland Mist Academy
According to the submission video, you can go back and edit. It looks like you are given the chance to review everything as a PDF and are permitted to go back to make needed changes. I don't know from experience, though. I'm waiting for you to try it first. ?

Just wondering if you've hit "review and submit" yet and what happened?

Yes, you can go back and make changes after you look at everything as a pdf. I submitted my guidance counselor docs a few weeks ago, and I don't remember the specifics, but you don't have to worry about accidentally submitting the docs before you are ready as you are asked to confirm that you are ready to submit before the docs are submitted.

...................
Once you review and submit that's IT FOR THAT COLLEGE.. ask my how I know...? You get to preview the PDF and even if you took your time I highly highly recommend walking away, having a snack going to the bathroom, stretching and then sitting down and reviewing the PDF with a fine toothed comb. In my son's app to Carnegie Mellon, there were TWO typos ? . IN my son's app to another school he was very very excited about he submitted the same essay twice ....he has emailed them and they have printed the correct second essay and attached it to his physical file, but I think it looks really bad for him, that maybe they will see him as not being careful and detail oriented enough which in his major is a big deal. All the others turned out great/amazing etc. but it's still a bummer. I feel like those typos will greatly reduce his chances of getting into CM.
Woodland Mist Academy
Thanks for the warning. (Although I really wish you didn't have any first-hand experience with it!)
RootAnn
Anyone remember the "talk me down" thread a year or two ago? I can't remember the details, but it was the same sort of thing CT mentioned but on the counselor side. (I'll find & link later if I remember.)

Woodland Mist Academy
When I do a preview, the uploaded documents don't show up. Is that normal? Will they open them and print them separately? Also, didn't someone have a senior a couple years ago whose application was lost? How did they know? Does anyone remember? RootAnn
Are you doing the preview at the very end--the one that you do only if you hit the scary "review and submit" button? That's the only one the uploaded docs show up in, not before . . .
Woodland Mist Academy
Oh yeah. I forgot about that. No, I've not quite been that brave yet.
Woodland Mist Academy
I did, however, find out that if you clink a link within the practice account, it will take you to the linked website and sign you into the site with whatever name is on the practice account and that ID #. I hope I just didn't somehow ruin my teen's chances at that school... I didn't realize it was going to the school's site and signing me in! I clicked away immediately, but still... Woodland Mist Academy
*note to self: silly names and email addresses on even practice accounts are a bad idea...
